I have a 2002 ford escape and when I went to park it and turn it off I was not in park and it was in reverse. I used the override switch and it will start but will not move.

Well this is not related. I'll need some more info to diagnose this. Shutting it off in any position will not cause this. Check the trans fluid while running. write back if there's more.

My 2002 ford excort will not shift out of park unless you use the shift override button. The fuse for this circuit is good.

Are your brake lights working? A common cause of this problem is the brake lamp switch being disconnected or having a bad switch. One problem that I have seen a LOT is broken wires near the brake lamp switch due to the installation of aftermarket accessories that tie into the brake lamp circuits.

Sounds like you need a new shifter assembly, or the brake switch. Most likely will be the shifter though if you can move it out of park with the override.

When you experience this problem, check to see if your brake lights are coming on. It could be as simple as a brake light switch malfunction. If the brake lights are functioning as the problem is occurring then you could for example have a problem with the shift interlock solenoid.

Sounds like the headlight switch, The switch should have a built in relay that shuts them off if there is a short. The relay could be faulty.
