When my 02 silverado 2500hd is in 4x4 the tires are locked and the truck won't move until I shift back to 2hi. Differential or Encoder Motor?

You can take this with a grain of salt but I am a junior in high school taking auto mechanics and my teacher use to work for a chevrolet dealership where they had a geo tracker come in because it would drive fine until placed in 4 wheel drive. Once placed in 4 wheel it would not move because front and rear differentials were geared differently from factory causing the wheels to lock up. If it has never been able to go into 4 wheel since you have owned it I hope this will help...

I have grease coming out of my rear wheel housing what could be the problem. 2007 chevy silverado 2500

It shouldn't have grease are you sure it's not gear oil? And if it is leaking gear oil that means the seal at the axle hub is bad and needs to be replaced. Sounds bad but not to hard to replace, The seal is only a couple of dollars if you do it yourself! Make sure that it is not your brake caliper or wheel cylinder leaking.

My 4 wheel drive will not ingauge but the push button saids it in 4x4

I believe this vehicle 4x4 system works on vacuum. If there is a slight leak it will not change correctly. Had same issue with mine. Said there was a SMALL leak in a T piece. They replaced it and all was well.

check to see if there is damage, the seal should seal, is the new seal damaged? replace seal and watch closely for where it is leaking, you may need to de burr a piece or jb a piece to make a better seal.
