How do i test the ignition coil to know if its good or bad

With the vehicle in 'Park'[Auto] or 'Neutral' and hand brake on [Manual], open the bonnet and locate the ignition coil.
1. Ensure the lead is fully engaged [and that all wiring connections are tightened and free from dirt and corrosion] then follow it to the distributor cap and check that the other end is properly connected and the plug leads are also.
2. Remove a spark plug lead at the plug then remove the plug.
3. Connect the removed plug to it's lead and while holding the threaded portion of the plug in positive contact with bare metal on the engine [exhaust manifold] have someone turn the ignition key to crank the engine.
WARNING: Be careful if the engine is hot and wear gloves and use pliers with insulated handles when holding the test plug.
4. As the engine is turning over inspect the spark plug electrodes for any sign of sparking. A blue spark is what you want to see. Orange spark or none at all is bad news for the coil which needs to be replaced.
5. When you're done, replace everything properly, account for all tools and remember a clean engine is a serviceable engine. 25325059-xy42b42qawgpyeebopf3rzcc-3-0.jpg

I drive a 95 toyota 4 runner.I would like to know the right way to check my sparkplug wires if working p roper.

You can fabricate a tester from a 6 inch long mongol pencil. Sharpen one end and drill a 1/8" hole in the middle. Now remove the sparkplug wire from each sparkplug and insert the pencil onto the sparkplug wire with the dsharpened end connected or touching the ground or any metal part of the engine. Start your engine and you should see sparks jumping on the drilled hole on the pencil which indicates that your spark plug wire is okay.

My rotors also has been turned

IF you mean the distributor rotor turn the timing belt is ok. Remove the centre cable of the distributor and hold 5 millimetres from the metal part of your engine and let summon to start your engine when engine crank you have to see spark if spark there coil is ok. Fit the cable back do same with the spark plugs lead one by one if is no spark in any one of the leads is your rotor damage or ignition components .

I was driving when my engine just stoped i tryed to start it but it wont start the engine will turn over but it just wont start

it is possible the points in the distributer cap have failed, or worn. check your spark plugs (you will need 2 people for this) or even just your leads by having one person turn the engine over and the other holding 1 lead (just take one off at a time) against the engine block it should throw a spark and arc to the block ******DONT TOUCH THE SPARK IT HURTS****** if you dont get a spark then it is most likly a distributer problem. Hope thes helps

My 98 sonoma will not start. It turns over and cranks for just a split second then dies

you may have a fuel blockage
if it is fuel injected, remove the fuel supply line leading up to the fuel rail, put the end of the hose into a small jar, turn the engine over a few times to see if fuel is coming through, if no fuel is coming through check the fuel filter, if still no fuel your problem is most probably in the fuel pump in the tank.
if you have fuel at the hose you took off the fuel rail your problem is possibly electrical, start by removing a lead from each plug one at a time, hold the end of the lead near a metal surface such as a bolt head or the block, crank the engine and check for spark from the lead, if there is spark on that lead check the other leads as well, if they all spark move to the spark plugs and check all of those by removing them from the head, putting the lead on the plug and put the plug onto a metal surface and crank the engine, if there is spark at the point on the plug it can be considered to be working.
repeat the same steps for all the plugs but make sure you hold the plug on the block with a good pair of insulated pliers to avoid getting a shock from the lead.
If all the plugs are working check for compression in the engine.
if all those steps dont find the problem you will have to consult a mechanical workshop for further checks
hope this has helped

Car turns over.but wont fire.

NOT MUCH TO GO ON, MOST NON STARTERS ARE CAUSE BY ELECTRICCS
1. TEST FOR SPARK ON EACH LEAD WHEN CRANKING ENGINE
GUESS YOU HAVE POINTS IN THE DISTRIBUTOR,
2. IF NO SPARK AT PLUG LEADS, TURN IGNITION ON AND OPEN POINTS WITH S/DRIVER SEE IF SPARK FROM COIL TO DISTRIBUTOR LEAD HAVE THE END HELD CLOSE TO EARTH POINT, THEN CHECK THEY OPEN WHEN ENGINE ROTATES, IF THAT FAILS CHECK POWER TO COIL WITH IGN ON.
CHECK YOU HAVE FUEL GETTING TO THE PLUGS,

1984 land rover v8 109 will turn over but not fire

check you have a spark at your ht leads, i.e, turn the engine over holding a lead to the engine, if you can see the spark, then your spark plugs need cleaning/changing, if not check your distributor brush as sometimes the carbon brush wears on v8 land rovers.
