I have owned a 2000e cortina auto for 19yrs totally original and 22000 miles I have what seems to be a vapour problem when warm cuts out and run rough I have rebuilt and cleaned the carb

It is a Ford and they used aluminium jets in the carburettor. What happens is the fuel mix ices as it leaves the jet and causes bad atomisation of the fuel. New carb should cure that or a rebuild kit, if there are any left. The same problem on the 1998 Sierra with the Pinto engine that caught fire.

1983 st90 f8a, suzuki carry van. it will start. but when i apply accelerator it will cut out. like it is starving fuel. i get fuel to the carb, but thats where im stuck.

A carburettor has an eccelerator pump which gives a small squirt of fuel into the venturi when depressing the gas pedal. it consists of either a diaphram or a small rubber cup (as in a car tyre pump) if this is worn or faulty it is most likely the cause of the problem and has to be replaced. This is normally included in a carburettor kit which can be purchased at most auto parts dealers. I suggest you get one and replace all the parts supplied in the kit. I am 90% certain this will solve your problem

Purpose of tiny hole between large holes on evinrude outboard intake manifold

talk with an evinrude outboard mechanic but I suspect that it is an air bleed hole to help in the emulsion tube of the carby
it could be the idle circuit but then changes it's operation for higher rpms.

Where does the fuel line connect to the engine?

On most engines, fuel from the fuel line enters the carburetor's fuel bowl, a reservoir where a float, similar to the float ball in a toilet tank, regulates the fuel level. From there, a metering device called a jet lets fuel into the emulsion tube inside the pedestal, where fuel and air first mix. (Older models include an adjustable jet; newer models contain a fixed jet.) Fuel travels through the emulsion tube to the main passageway in the carburetor, called the throat or venturi, where further mixing occurs.

Stalls press throttle

1st question, is that both hot and cold engine.?
2nd/ does the engine get hot? reach 180F temps. and hold.?

CARBI ON THE BARBI.
i feel your pain, carbs are fussy things..
for sure if the engine is health and the distributor is timed
right and advances by the book , does it?
then its a bum carb.

the problem with is fixing a 27 year old car is probematic.
back when, we can just buy a rebuilt.
or buy a kit.
we'd clean the carb , then kit it and then retune it.
now the symptoms of a bad carb,
1: it's lean.
2: what causes. lean
a: float level too low. RTM read the manual look up level spec.
b: air leaks. any where in the intake tract.
c: clogged gummed up jets, for sure in any 27 yo carb.
d: clogged nozzels
e: air jet fell out and not is tool lean, (emulsion jets)

above is for a hot motor.
if motor actually gets hot.
if the car stalls cold.?
then the choke is bad.
how do you like my carb in a nutshell post.
?

change main jet in the carburettor install K&N air filter and iridium NGK or DENSO spark plugs tune up your engine change oil filter and oil. Flush your radiator check tyres pressure, Check engine compression and air leaks from inlet manifold ,Run hi octane fuel and injection cleaner mix for 250k to clean the carbon in the cylinders ,check for fuel hose loose ,carburettor leaks, distributor cup aluminium contacts to be clean, Vacuum hose on distributor unit for suction for advance timing .

Carburettors nissan king cab 1991 what make carburettor

The goal of a carburetor is to mix just the right amount of gasoline with air so that the engine runs properly. If there is not enough fuel mixed with the air, the engine "runs lean" and either will not run or potentially damages the engine. If there is too much fuel mixed with the air, the engine "runs rich" and either will not run (it floods), runs very smoky, runs poorly (bogs down, stalls easily), or at the very least wastes fuel. The carb is in charge of getting the mixture just right.

*UPDATE* 1984 Mustang Won't stay running

Hi

You need to check if the Idle control jets are set properly, these are the 2 screws near the base plate on this type of carburettor.

Screw them fully in, then on the primary side screw it out 2.5 turns.
On the secondary side screw this out 1.75 turns. This should get your idle up.

If this dosn't work then you have got problems with the idle jet system which means you need to pull the emulsion tubes out and jets out to clean them.

Also check that your Idle screw is screwed in enough to allow the throttle to be open enough to idle.

Hope this helps

Thanks

Jason

I have a 1988 carburetor that has a cloged idle jet and I need to unclog it How do I do it? What is the best way to do that?

unscrew the idle mixture screw, count the turns, blow down hole with compressed air, rescrew screw back in.if it works,ok.if it doesnt work, youll have to strip carbie and clean it inside, jets, galleries, everything thoroughly.may need new gasket set.lay it all out carefully,on large sheet of newspaper,.if two barrel, dont get jets mixed up from one barrel to the other..have clean container of petrol to rinse and wash each part.use fine wire to clean any jets/air bleed holes etc..blow dry bits away from work place..use widest screwdriver blade that will fit, saves damaging jets[in fact, buy a new set of screwdrivers]

Where is the throttle on a 95 ford econoline. Someone said it is on the accelarator?

start with your right foot.the accelerator pedal, attached to the throttle cable.attached to the throttle body attached to a butterfly valve inside the throttle body(of a carburettor)it is a tube of say 2"slimming down to 1.1/2" widening to 2"with the thinest part housing a fuel jet,and it is this tunnel effect that causes a rapid flow of air that mixes fuel in the inlet manifold.attached to the cylinder head etcetera
any help?
