Car over heats up hills and long trips fine around town recently head done & thermostate no sign of water leak have only seen 1 of 2 radiator fans working

check which of the fans is running it could be the one for the airconditioning thats turning and that would explain why it over heats around town because there is no cold air to cool it and there is when you are driving on long trips

Can't find the A/C leak on my 96 honda accord. Pro mechanic used dye and can't find it.

You need to use a UV light to see the dye. The most common leak I have run into are in the condensors. If you still can not see the dye with a uv light suspect a leaky evaporator core.

Freon leak under dashboard

The leak is the evaporator which is in the dash. The complete dash has to come out to remove the hvac plenum to remove the evaporator. It is about a 7 to 10 hour job.The factory evap.core is about $475 and what ever the labor rate is for the repair shop.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Sounds like a thermostat or cooling system issue. Change the fluid and the thermostat. It will do your engine good so it's money well spent.

Cooling fan in Honda

On my 1996 Accord (4cylinder), this was caused by a tube inside my radiator overflow tank dropping off into the tank - the radiator would have too little fluid in it, so the fans would run a LONG time after shutting the thing down. The tank is in the front left, a white cap with a black tube running out of the cap to the radiator. Underneath the cap there should be a foot or so of hose - this is what fell off of mine.

Hooked it back up, made sure enough fluid was in the radiator, and no more problem.

The dashboard coolant heat gage will show the high temperature, also.

Location of expansion valve

Expansion valve is located passenger dash area , inside the evaporator housing. This is not a repair that can be easily done by a home "do it yourselfer".It requires evacuating the the air condition system of freon is the biggest obsticle doing at home. Rec. taking to a certified a/c repair shop for this repair.

You need to discharge the AC system and remove the evaporator to replace the expansion valve. No two way about it.

No need to remove the dash
