2002 eddie bauer explorer, growling in front end and noise when turning wheels, can feel vibration in fronty tires. took in and tech drained front fluid and said it should improve the "clutches in front diff.", so far it seems to be getting worse. Is this a common problem with explorers? How much to fix, ball park?

without being able to inspect it,and from discription of problem, frt end growl:could be diff.or wheel bearing, noise with wheels turn.:could be cv axle joint or wheel bearing, frt tire vib.could be tires need to be balance or caused by wheel bearing,cv axle, abnormal tire wear, slightly damaged wheel rim, these are possible causes, you have to find problem first, changing oil in diff. will not fix problem,if problem is the diff.

Noise And Vibration 2005 Buick Rondezvous making a growling noise and vbration from front end,Have put on new tires, brakes, and had alligned and still no change. It is al wheel drive.

With the front end on jack stand's put the shifter in neutral put your hand on the coil spring spin the wheel as fast as you can with the other hand see if you can feel any roughness in the bearing.Do the same on both side's just because you can't feel play in the wheel bearing doesn't mean it's good.Let me know what you find.

Vech Has Vibration at About 80km somtimes lower speed shows up more, it is 2005 explorer,i changed all 4 wheel bearings

A wheel bearing in this model will not cause vibration, it will only cause noise. I suggest you check the tires for a possible separated cord or out of balance condition. Also pay close attention to worn front end parts and steering components, these parts will cause vibration.

it could be they didnt install the bearing correctly the inner and outer bearing must be changed and of course greased and then tightened and the cotter pin put back in but check this (grab the tire try to move it back and forth if there is play it may not be tight enough, could also be an issue with your tire have you tried your spare just to see if that stops the problem.,it could also be they did not check the shaft with a micrometer for excessive wear if it is worn bad it needs to be replaced.otherwise go to step 1 ensure the bearing is installed correct!!

sounds like tire rub issue, as inflating tire solved the issue for a short while possibly that the tires placed on vehicle maybe incorrect size width/height, check tire size, look in wheel well for areas of possible rubbing.

Hello, I see you may a lot of changes and replaced a lot of parts. We leased an Explorer the same Year as yours. In our case there was a slight noise as well as vibration. The problem was the Front Hub bearings, They were bad at 18000 miles.

There are a few things I want to suggest. The spinning of the wheels on the lift will not load the bearings. A Dyno table can get everything turning with a load on it. As your vehicle is a 4x4, most Dyno's were 2 wheelers. You would have to call to find one for a 4x4.

Next, if the new Hubs do not help, have a look at the rotors. They are also balanced. You can spin balance the Wheel and rotor as a unit with a floor motor. It's not the best way to Balance because tire rotation or even shifting the Wheel on the lugs will UNbalance it. But this method CAN pinpoint a problem if a Balanced tire does not spin true when bolted to the vehicle. You will know the Rotor is off-balance and which axle is causing the problem.

Would be interested to see a Post of what you found.

Vibration and noise from front end while driving

Jack up the front end and put stands under it and block rear wheels. Look at axle boots and see if they are cracked. Try turning wheel back and forth sharply and see if you can hear any clicking. Problem could be outer axle joints. If the boots are cracked or you hear a clicking noise you will have to replace the axle. The axle and boot come as a complete unit. Please let me know what you find out.
