Question about 1998 Kia Sportage

2 Answers

I have serviced my kia as the manual describes and the past year by a Kia Dealership. They stated 7 months ago that they had checked my oil; next visit to Kia is to be at 60,000 which I do not have, engine light came on, checked oil and it is rather low. What kind of oil does this car takes? it is 4WD and automatic.

I would suggest speaking with who ever changed your oil last so that you don't mix viscosity. Normally it would be 10W30 maybe 5W30. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa!

My 2007 Kia Rio is ten years old and has only 25,000 miles on it. Is it time to change the timing belt based on age, not mileage

Kia recommends ( california) checking at 60,000miles and 90,000miles and changing at 105,000miles
all other states and up to 2009 kia recommends replacement every 60,000miles
models from 2010 recommends every 60,000 miles or 72 months which ever occurs first
the timing belt is subject to dust ,age , grime and oil from cam, crank and hydraulic tension leaks so It would be advisable to consider changing it
rubber ages and cracks and a check by an accredited service shop would be a prudent move and if it is recommended to change the belt consider the advice

mine is in the right rear brake. i first found it in 2007, when my car was in moisture, like after rain. you could hear it and feel it, you knew exactly where the problem was.i had my oil changed by NTB and had a free 22 point check, they found the problem, with little effort. the kia dealership never found a problem. i became disappointed after leaving my car with them. i was so sure they'd find the problem and fix it under warranty. my spectra had two other problems too. trunk would unlock without any effort from me. the park lights would come on with out my help. it took two years to have my lights fixed, but my trunk is still an issue after 4 years.

i was told call a service writer when my trunk opens. and i said then what, are you going to fix it then. i just can't leave my car with you for days.

My 2003 Kia Rio has almost 200,000 miles on it... 4 months ago I drove it over 2,000 miles with no problems. Before leaving, I took it in to my mechanic to have them change the oil and oil filter, and just generally check it over... fluid levels, brakes, tires ~ basic stuff.
Good luck!

In the Owners manual is stated:
For better fuel economy, it is recommended to use the engine oil of
a viscosity grade SAE 5W-20 (API SM / ILSAC GF-4). However, if the engine oil is not available in your country, select the the proper engine oil engine oil using the engine oil viscosity chart.
What brand of oil to use is up to you. Castrol 5W-20 GTX, Pennzoil, Valvoline, or you can go up to Mobile 1, which is more expensive. If you change oil every 3000miles or 3 months, then you may not use synthetic oil, but it is up to you. My personal opinion is:
It is better to change 5W-20 Castrol GTX every 3 months or 3000miles than fully synthetic Mobil1 5W-20 every 6months or 6000miles.

You can use 5W-20 all year around, but when you Kia Sorento will accumulate miles, and engine start to wear up, thicker 10W-30 is a suitable substitute. If the temperature will be 20F and expected to fall you must not use 10W-30, and will have 5W-20 in your Kia Sorento Oil PAN. The reason is that, when you start the engine the oil is in the Oil Pan, and 10w-30 is very thick in low temperatures. Till the oil warms up the engine wears up extensively.

Where can I find a 2008 kia sorento repair manual?

Register. For current model years, look under "Glove Box Materials." For prior years, purchase owner and service manuals through your local Kia dealership or call DDS Publications at (866) 542-6268.

Good luck (remember rated this help).

My kia spectra 2003 will not go into drive

There is a square plug on the console that can be popped out, where you then use a screwdriver to depress a button or lever of some type. If you have the owner manual, the procedure is described in there.

My nephew had the same problem with his then fiance's KIA a couple of years ago.
