Replaced clutch and throwout bearing now will not go into gear

I bleed the throwout bearing thing it didn t have aenough pressure when the pedel is out make a whining noise and won t go into gear versalize throwout bearing going back and forth its in a 1989 f150 inturnal slave cylinder not sure if if put it in correctly there was a little knoch on spinal push it in and it ingaged look right but not properly sure

These can be a pain to bleed is it is the slave is new. Keep bleeding it, try a vacuum leeder or try reverse bleeding with a hand oil pump.

Hi i just put a new master cylinder a month back now today my clutch felt hard and when i put it in reverse heard a broken sound clutch went flat and oil came from the master what can the problem be


Umm...

A mechanical 'breaking noise' doesn't sound good. It's hard to diagnose a problem online without being there to see/hear the vehicle. But .. it may be that your clutch pressure plate has broken/ release/throwout bearing has broken?

It's difficult to see why the master cylinder should leak - unless it was incorrectly fitted in the first place?

Just to check ... The master cylinder is in the engine bay/compartment and is where you top up with clutch fluid. When a master cylinder fails it usually results in no pressure at the clutch pedal, not a leak.

The clutch slave cylinder is the one that does all the work. When you press the pedal hydraulic pressure is sent from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder - which then pushes the release/throwout bearing against the clutch pressure plate and 'disconnects' the driven plate .. allowing you to change gear.

The slave cylinder is the one that does all the hard work - it is located somewhere where engine and gearbox mate together, usually at the bottom right/left. It's usually the one that fails/leaks. It's quite easy to replace..

I don't think it is anything to do with reverse gear. It's more to do with the clutch pedal being depressed - and, I would suspect - something has failed.

Basically, a clutch is 3 parts. There's the 'pressure plate' which bolts onto your flywheel. The pressure plate is a 'spring'. You depress the clutch pedal and the release/throwout bearing presses onto the centre of the pressure plate causing the 'fingers' - the springs - to bend back and take pressure off the driven plate - which is the link - the drive - between engine and gearbox.

If you have a leak your clutch will not work. This causes a 'grinding/crashing' noise when you try to change gear. The first thing you should do is check where the leak is coming from and do something about it.

The 'noise' that you mention may be due to the fact that the gears are 'grinding' as they try to mesh together without the use of the clutch.

The first thing you should do is check why there's a leak. It's difficult to see why a new master cylinder is leaking unless it was incorrectly fitted and damaged (pipes incorrectly connected..).

If it's the slave cylinder that is leaking - replace it. Easy job.

If Master cylinder and slave cylinder are ok - you have to look at your clutch unit. A clutch is always replaced with 3 parts ... throwout bearing/pressure plate and driven disk.

Hi, The throw out bearing should not have been affected with anything that you have described.
Quick note about bleeding: Bench bleed the master cylinder, then never let it run dry.
Anyways, you seem to have too many things happening at once. I worry about the clutch itself. When they wear, travels of things line throwout bearings become excessive.
If by stuck you mean beyond fully extended, certainly a clutch.
If by stuck you mean it is released and will not engage, maybe not a clutch...Make sense?
Essentially, you need the clutch to work correctly, sometimes you just gotta rip it apart and redo it.

No clutch disengagement


I hate to say it, but it could be an exploded throwout bearing or defective pressure plate/disc. Fixed one the other day, all new hydraulics, good travel at the fork, pulled trans to find throwout bearing in pieces. Hope this helps.

I replaced clutch master and slave. I even had the flywheel shaved.. now i cant get it into gear when started.


when you had the flywheels shaved it may have moved the pressure plate fingers to far from the throwout bearing

Your throwout bearing may be nearing the end of its useful live. Your clutch may be in the same condition.

Please have this checked by your mechanic before any major damage occurs.

Cant put my 98 Hombre in gear.


There are 4 parts to this system. First is the clutch master cylinder, second is the slave cylinder, third is the clutch throwout bearing, and last is the clutch pressure plate. These are all the parts that can be the issue. The master cylinder is the part that pumps the fluid to the slave cylinder, which pushes on the linkage to the throwout bearing, which pushes on the fingers on the clutch pressure plate, releasing the clutch. If you drained the fluid out, first you need to make sure that all the AIR is out of the system. It's just like brakes, it will not pump if it has air in it. The hydraulic portion of the system rarely gives problems, so here's a question. How old is the clutch in your truck? If it's over 100,000 mi, then you should start suspecting the throwout bearing. Did the truck make any groaning noises when you pressed the clutch recently, and then perhaps it stopped on its own? These are signs of throwout bearings going out. Here's the bit of troubleshooting that you need. go under your truck, and find where the slave cylinder attaches and pushes on the linkage that goes into the bell housing on the transmission. Feel this linkage; it should have very limited to no movement. if it moves significantly, then your throwout bearing went out, and you will need to replace your clutch and throwout bearing. If not, then it's the hydraulic portion of the brakes, and you'll have to troubleshoot between air in the system, master cylinder failure, or slave cylinder failure.

Have your mechanic ck for a possible issue with the pilot bearing. if the clutch linkage is indeed full travel, then the clutch should be "disengaged" and the only thing left is a pilot bearing (which should be replaced at every clutch replacement) or there is a problem with the disc. If clutches dont last 100k miles it either the driver or cheap parts.

two things to mind, sometimes when you get a new clutch it comes with blocks in pressure plate there put in there from the factory for shipping purposes, they have to be removed otherwise it will do what you discribe. secound if you got the wrong length throwout bearing will do it to. most likely its one or the other. if you sure everything is right as far as clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing, than the only other thing i can say it could be is slave cyl. bad. hope this helps. Clutch wont work


Probably air in the clutch hydraulic system. Did you bleed it? What fluid did you use?

Clutch goes straight to floor


That sounds like a broken clutch cable.
Can you select any gears?
Does it grind when you try to select reverse?
