The ac unit is a tax on the engine to run. This is true with all vehicles. Having the ac on will make the engine work harder to run the ac compressor. This makes the engine run hotter.

However my suspicion here is that you may have an airlock in the system which is interfering with the proper circulation of the coolant around the engine.

This is especially true given the amount of work you have done on the system and you will already have replaced the entire coolant in the system.

One method of bleeding the system is to remove the header or radiator cap. Turn the heater and AC system on and whilst the car is stationary allow it to tick over at idle for 15 - 20 minutes. This will encourage any air to leave the system. You will then need to make sure you top up with more coolant as any air leaves the system.

Also be sure to leave the heater control on full heat while the car is running. (Heater fan does not need to be running).

Hope this helps. If so please rate my answer accordingly or leave a comment.

Sounds like you have done quite a bit to try and get this fixed already. I had this same problem with a Civic I had and here is what I would suggest you do in order:

  1. Make sure the tube going from the radiator to the overflow tank is clear and fluid can pass through. You can blow through it or flush water through it to test.
  2. Replace your radiator cap
  3. Flush radiator
  4. Replace radiator
One of those will definitely fix your problem but I would start with number 1 and work your way down. More than likely you will get it fixed before number 4. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for using FixYa!

My 2004 3400 closed system ,runs hot in town unless heater is on. driving up a mountain pass it gets very hot.on a flat highway runs normal. new t state, resivior cap, both fans work no leaks or smell

Radiator fan motor or radiator fan thermostat defective/

Also there is a relay that operates the fan motor

In town not enough air passing through radiator allowing it to over temp.. With heater fan running acts like cooling fan keeping engine cool

Highway driving ample air passing through radiator without fan.

Hill climbing requires cooling fan/

Hope this helps?

2000 Dodge stratus - runs ok but at times will "chug" or misfire driving down highway - think its an electrical issue as it will almost "act up" when using cruise, turn signals, air conditioning, etc.

check the vacuum lines for leaks first, since the cruise uses vacuum to pull on the gas pedal, and ac controls use vacuum to work the baffle doors in the ductwork..then start looking for loose connections on these 3 itemsrepost findings

2000 maxima with 147,000 miles. the A/C compressor does not want to run when idling but will run at highway speeds

Your ac pulley may be worn so the engine needs extra boost and power to run it thats why when it is in optimal power (highway-- high engine power)as opposed to idle(low engine speed) it runs. You might need it replaced.

I have a 1994 es 300 and my car keeps running hot when the AC is on. It only runs hot when im in town, when im on the highway or in the country it doesnt. my dad replace everything just about! and it still...

turn on ac and see if fans come on ,,see if fans or fan kicks into high after a little while ,look for reason why fans or fans do not run with ac on they have to run ,relay? or high side switch check preasures on ac ,low side and high, high side may be to high for fans or fan to cool down ,,ac problem or to much freon,,,radiator new?

Nissan sentra n16 temp. overheating

If all of the things you replaced are working fine I am going to say double check the thermostat. Also make sure your fan is engaging at temp. You cam check by running till warm and then running the AC. If the car does not overheat with the AC on then your fan is not running under normal conditions (with AC off) This can be caused by a couple of different things depending on how the fan is set up. I am not a nissan expert

Nissan 2000 ac hot when idle

the a/c condenser has a fan in front ( there is actually 2 fans if you sit on the car it will be fan on right side ) if this fan does not
come on immediately when you are parked and engine in idle
there is a problem with power to it, or motor failure. If you drive it
on the highway and a/c operates fine that's because air is circulating though condenser (thats what the fan is supposed to do at idle or slow traffic)
