2001 dodge stratus will not start and my ecu is clicking

My 2001 dodge stratus r/t 6 cyl. will not start. Nothing will come on and when i connect the batteries the ecu makes a clicking noise. I looked at all the wires and they look ok. Like i said nothing will come on except for a very faint sound from the cab which is the dinging when the door is open. I cant figure it out and i dont have the test equipment to test it. I am trying to avoid taking it to a shop.

I would check the grounds. Put WD40 IN EVERY connector, especially the big cables- battery positive, battery negative, starter positive, alternator positive, and the engine grounds(the ones that ground the engine to the chassis. i would suggest a repair manual if you cannot locate them.
Also, make a habit of cleanong the neg. and pos. posts on the battery often(once a year)with a wire brush and pour some wd40(or any penetrating, water disipant lubricant) on them. If you have gunk on the posts, clean that off. I have seen too many problems due to bad electrical contacts, so try that first.
hope this helps.

Sounds like the battery is low, must be 12 volts or the cpu won't work. The computer does not make a noise. A relay can or will when not getting enough juice. Write back with more info if you get some please.

Does it hold fuel pressure when it sits for 6 hours?

Have you put a professional scanner on it, to look at all data
& any stored DTC's

Your missing air, fuel or spark to some extent, are you not, &
for a reason, but only after six hours, why?

You need the various components hooked up to a scope
when you first start it, to catch something a miss

How about the timing belt & check of the cylinder contribution
cylinder by cylinder or a cyl leak down test for valve issues

2001 dodge stratus sputters when driving from start like it about to die then it starts to drive fine then i get up to about 50 mph then sputter some more took it to get a coder read and the guy said cyl 3...

Make sure your air filter and fuel filter are good. They can cause havoc. Have you checked for a vaccum leak? A leak can make your car act up like it has major problems. You still need good spark plug wires to get a good connection. I would check for the leak. A good way to check is by soapy water. Just watch it around electric parts and wires.

2001 Dodge Stratus WOn't Start

Proper way to jump your car is to attach the jumper cable clamps to the marked posts on your car...on the vehicle that is jumping you, attach the positive clamp to the positive post and the negative clamp to some piece of metal on the vehicle...can even be a screw as long as it sparks a little (grounding). Don't connect the clamp to the negative post.
