Question about 2000 Alfa Romeo 156

Alfa 156 overheats despite new thermostat and new radiator fixed. fan works as soon as as tem hits 90. recently coolant level keeps going down. head gasket gone? pls share experience

Rev the engine over 3 4000 rpm and look in the expansion botlles for clear aer bubles if yes head gasket is gone my one was and water missing inexplicable yes is going in the cilinders or oil sump chek dipstik for white foam or very steamy waterish exhaust in the bak of the car

2000 cadillac deville is overheating, replaced thermostat: water pump radiator had head gaskets fixed it's saying check coolant level and it spews coolant from the overflow tank cap when hot thoughts?


Two cooling fans controlled by three relay's . If only one fan is working ,that could be a problem .

The coolant level sensor monitors the coolant level in the cooling system and indicates if the coolant is low. This sensor is located at the base of the radiator surge tank and is not serviceable.

There are dozens of possibilities from as simple as a bad pressure cap or low coolant level to as bad as a cracked engine block. Knowing the conditions that cause the overheat would help diagnose, here's some basics--assuming the coolant is full. Only overheats at low speed is generally an airflow problem: fan not running because of a fuse, relay, temperature switch, or dead fan motor. Only overheats at high speed is generally a coolant flow problem: radiator is plugged up, faulty thermostat, water pump vanes damaged. Tell us anything you've checked, any recent repairs done, and the conditions under which it overheats.

My husband's '83 F250 overheats on and off going


Some thing too check:
Make sure coolant level is up to line and clean (not dirty, do to clogged radiator, may need to be flushed or replaced).
Make sure air flow through the out side of radiator is clear (dirt, leaves, ect..) .
Make sure fan is working properly equip t (is not running too slow). Or Manual (belt driven) fan clutch is working properly, not loose or spinning too freely?
Check for broken or cracked fan blades itself.
Check radiator cap, (no gasket tears).
Could be thermostat going bad ?
Could be coolant temperature Relay or sensor/switch (from computer) going bad?
Check radiator hose(s) (too soft, may collapse)?
In some rare cases:
Timing could be off.
Could be water pump.
Could be blown head gasket(s).
Could have cracked head(s).

Car overheated and lost all power. how do I get it to start?


ENGINE NOT GOING TO START IF GET TOO HOT FIRST THING I WOULD REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP THEN ADD COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT THATS WHEN THERMOSTAT OPEN UP AND TOP HOSE HOT.CHECK FOR LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE CHECK BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.CHECK FOR LEAKS AROUND THE RADIATOR LOOK DOWN BELOW COOLANTS FANS CHECK FOR LEAKS AT RADIATOR CORES OR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR PLASTIC SIDE CONTAINERS. CHECK FOR LEAKS AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE HEATER HOSES AROUND ENGINE BLOCK TO THE HEATER CORE HOSES. THERE IS A REASON CAR OVERHEAT.IF CAR OVERHEAT WHILE DRIVING YOU HAVE FAULTY THERMOSTAT OR LEAKING OUT COOLANT OR BLOWN HEAD GASKET.IF ENGINE OVER HEAT WHILE SITTING DURING A LONG IDLING PERIOD.YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR FAULTY COOLING FAN FUSE OR RELAY.HOT WIRE COOLANT TO SEE IF IT RUNS IF NO REPLACE FAN MOTOR. My 1997 Dodge Intrepid overheats. I've replaced the thermostat, and it continues to overheat. I noticed adjacent to one of the radiator hoses, a ribbed hose that is split. Could this cause the car to...


Now that you've eliminated the thermostat, it could be a number of other things. Don't drive the car too far until you've fixed the overheating problem - overheating can destroy an engine.

That split ribbed hose you see is plastic wire loom - it carries and protects electrical wires, and is not the cause of overheating.

1. Low coolant level
2. Radiator hose split/cracked, causing low coolant level.
3. Head Gasket - leaking, causing low coolant level
4. Thermostat - stuck closed (you eliminated this possibility)
5. Radiator cap - worn/damaged
6. Radiator fins - obstructed by debris/cardboard
7. Water Pump belt - missing/broken
8. Heater Core - leaking, causing low coolant level
9. Intake Manifold Gasket - leaking, worn, damaged
10. Radiator Fan Relay - faulty
11. Radiator Fan Blade - broken, missing
12. Radiator Fan Sensor/Switch - faulty
13. Water Pump - leaking, causing low coolant level
14. Radiator Fan Motor - faulty

My primary suspects would be Rad Fan Relay (#10), and
Rad Fan Switch (#12).

Car will overheat while at idle


yes the head gaskets leaking on modern aluminum head engines is all to common. never overheat them, if they start to get hot shut it down and find out why, it can of course be the fans and plugged radiators or faulty thermostats but sounds like in your case the head gasket is leaking and combustion gas is entering the cooling system and this causes an overheat

The problem with overheat is due to poor coolant circulating. The main culprit is the Radiator. When the radiator is clogging up, coolant can't be circulating. The stagnant coolant inside the engine water jacket keeps absorb heat from combustion chambers having no way to dissipate the heat then the engine is overheated. You can test the water pump by removing the thermostat, then hooking everything back. Open the radiator cap, then turn on the engine to see if water flowing down to several small tubes inside the radiator. If water can't go down fast enough to cause over flow at radiator opening then your 90 Legend Radiator already got clogged up. Replace with a new radiator, not even a rebuilt one. Good luck.

1989 cherokee xj major overheating issue


Fill up the cooling system and start the jeep. Let the jeep get at operating temp with the radiator cap off. If the coolant level goes down, add more. Keep your eye on the radiator level and see if any bubbles appear while the car is running. DON'T keep your head over the filler neck, if you do see alot of bubbles or air bubbles, you could have a bad headgasket.
