I checked timing chain and was full of gas and oil mixture, so I changed oil and filter. Took out 3 spark plugs turned key gas shot out. Now I am changing FUEL REGULATOR????? I have a new starter, fuel filter, plugs and wires, Injectors, changed battery, and I hope the regulator does the job. Check to make sure you have injector pulse while cranking vehicle using a noid lamp. If the injector is pulsing that is a good sign that the anti-theft system is not disabling the system, then check the camshaft/crankshaft sensors to start with also dewd ;p
Sounds like possibly more than on problem, crankshaft position sensor, or ignition module likely on starting prob which maybe affecting shifting due to hard code in ecm, or shift prob could be shift solenoid in valve body of transmission. Both parts readily available from local parts store
I just had this problem with a Sunfire that had the 2.2...I found the timing chain tensioner broke apart and not the car out of time.If it is the tensioner you will probably want to drop the oil pan and make sure there are not and particles of the tensioner in there.
The Crankshaft Position Sensor and the Ignition Control Module also control the spark. It depends on whether your vehicle is equipped with the 2.2L engine or the 2.4L engine as to where these components are located and what they look like.
