The Fuel pump will only run when the ignition is switched on.Try loosening your fuel filler cap to release any pressure in the tank and that should do the trick for you.
Once the pressure is released the fuel should stop flowing.

My 86 ranger keeps shutting down It has good fuel pressure New fuel pumps Will turn on then shut down What's going on? Could it be the distributor ?

Good fuel pressure from the pump is fine, at the pump. But if it can't flow constantly it WILL shut down. Have you though about changing the fuel filter? even a dirty fuel filter will allow enough fuel to the engine to allow it to run for a few seconds or so. When that little bit is gone, can't get enough to still run.

I have a 94es300 i crank it it starts up runs 5 mins shuts off like not getting enough gas changed fuel pump, fuel filter , fuel pressure regulator and ignitor still same whats up with this car

If you changed the fuel pump and the fuel filter and ignitor and regulator,in the list of changes do you know you have a EFI. The EFI main relay turn on the fuel pump which includes the circuit opening relay. Testing it mainly passes with flying colors just replace

My 89 f1-150 fuel pump takes 10 minutes to shut off when egnition is turned on it wont start until fuel pump shuts off

I would say the fuel pump is worn out or filter screen that is attached to fuel pump is clogged..
have you ever changed the in line fuel filter ?....I have never heard of this problem...
I wouldnt hesitate to change the fuel pump and in line fuel filter.......
One test you can try .....Get a good drain pan disconnect front line from in line fuel filter...rather than using a pressure gauge to save time turn ignition on and watch how fuel is dispensed into drain pan....you will be able to verify if it is bad....considering the age of vehicle it is surely clogged and or worn unless you have changed the pump, and filter and also cleaned the tank before...
Because all have trash in them......I think you are lucky to have that year of truck...I have a 98 F150
but I do long to have about a 72 model...WHAT engine is it ....IS it fuel injected ...?
This will help diagnosis but you may have just bought it....................I do not know

Where is the fel filter located on a 4 dr cavalier..do u have to replace the relay if( because of plugged fuel filter) it shut off to the fuel pump...thanks

The fuel filter is Under vehicle, center, below seating area, front of fuel tank, mounted on chassis.
I haven't had a filter so clogged that it shut off the pump. Relays should re-set themselfs. If changing the filter doesn't clear the problem, then I would start looking at the pump itself.

Hi , i have a 02 yukon and was driving it and the motor shut down. i can start it right away, but when i press on the gas it shuts off. is this a fuel pump problem or a relay problem?

I WOULD CHECK FUEL PUMP RELAY IF FUEL PUMP KICKS ON AND OFF.BUT IF FUEL FILTER HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED.CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER THE FUSE/RELAY IF ALL IS GOOD I WOULD SCAN VECHICLE FIRST BEFORE BUYING FUEL PUMP.

Truck was running and shut down while driving it & shut down. fuel pump?

check fuel pump, I think on your vehicle you have to drop out the tank to check the pump but you can take out the pump and check it with a car battery (out and away from the tank of course) to see if it is dead, also your fuel filter could be clogged. The fuel filter should be changed every few years anyway.

Changed feul pump feul filter changed computer. Van still shutdow

this could be a number of problems, check the voltage with a volt meter, not a test light at the fuel pump connection. make sure you have 12V,if so unhook the fuel supply line, turn key to ON not START, and make sure the pump will continue to flow,( obviously cqatch the fuel with a pail,or put a hose on it to pump it into a pail, don't let it leak all over the place.)if the pump continues to flow with out shutting off, your pump, filter, and electrical for your pump is ok.it could be a restriction in the return line,or the regulator may not be functioning.un hook the return line as close to engine as possible, install hose on it and route to a pail to catch fuel, with supply line hooked back up,start van and see if it works,if it keepd shutting off, you've now eliminated return line problems.check the regulator.

Engine shut down

Sounds like the fuel pump is the most likely suspect. The fule filter could also play a role in preventing the fuel under pressure from reaching the engine going uphill. If you haven't changed the fuel filter recently, change it either way, then you can rule it out if the problem persists.
