Yes... Every one is explaining it... But I still think what I got is right.. Wondering if there was a pic or something. Trying to charge my split unit air and I live in SC and its hot... please Help. Single mom of three dont have alot of money to take it in.

  • sxylilrednek Jun 28, 2009

Ok so I did have the right port... Is it normal to empty a can in there in less then 5 min? Do you know how many cans it takes... I added one large can with stop leak in it and it seemed to get a lil cooler but not much at all. I was told that since it was a split unit ac it would take a large can. But I dont think it is enough.

thank you so much.. You have been a great help. Being a woman trying to work on my car most people just tell me to bring it in and let someone else fix it... Again you have been Great!!!!

There will be a large size aluminum canister near the passenger side of the of the engine compartment. It will be near the firewall. sticking out of that canister will be a large nipple with a plastic screw off cover. That's the only port you need to charge your system. Unless you own an AC vacuum unit(around $300-$500) and want to **** down the whole system which is no longer nescesary! You can pick up the kit a Autozone for around $40.

Yes , first the can should be held upside down while refilling and it IS possible you need a second. I've emptied cans in 30 seconds before.

SOURCE: low side service port

Hi, All air-con systems have stardard size air-con pipe connections.1 small 1large so you can`t connect to the wrong side, the connector usually has a ring you have to pull back to then push onto the pipe connection that when connected keeps the connection tight ,to disconnect it is the reverse of fitting BE carefully and do not connect or disconnect with engine running wear goggles and gloves and do not breath any escaped gas,if your not confident give it to an expert !!.

SOURCE: Trying to locate the air conditioning low side

This job requires special tools and special training. If you lack either, you risk SERIOUS personal injury. Injury comes VERY EASILY!

You need to address oil levels, proper and legal refrigerant recovery, system evacuation, and recharge.

You were planning to also replace the receiver/dryer, correct? It also needs the oil in it measured and incorporated into the amount of oil (in %) that would need to be added. FAILURE to address these and other issues will guarantee premature system failure and likely compressor damage.

Take this job to a qualified shop.

Sorry

I am trying to put R134A in my car, and I wanted to make sure I put it in the low side service port, but I am having problems figuring out which one is the low side service port

The R134A connection hose will only fit on the low side service port. The high side port is bigger and will not fit that hose.

R134a recharger nozzle won't fit on low pressure service port.

The low pressure port on the 2003 grand am is actually behind the engine, near the firewall on the passenger side. Good luck getting your hose down there though, I ended up buying an extension hose.

Garging the ac unit

the low side on this year is on the larger lines of the two sizes,it will be the 1/4 in service port, the larger of the two ports the small service port is on the small line ,it is the high side ,,but that is for r12 system which it came out with,if it has been retofitted to 134a freon use it will have a different kind of service port the large line will have the smaller of the two ports it is the low side ,looks like a quick connect,,,,if it hasnt been changed over ,go to parts store and ask for service port retrofit for 134s low side ,if u do not have gauges dont get the high side service port,,,if so ask for 3/16 size high side retofit .

Your low side should have a "blue cap" on it. If it does not, it is located on the passenger side of the vehicle near the firewall.
