HI, PROBLEM AREA ON A WIDE RANGE OF "GM" CARS WHAT IT IS IS THAT YOUR PASSLOCK SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED WHICH MEANS THAT FUEL IS SHUT OFF TO THE ENGINE THEIR IS ONE WAY TO GET AROUND THIS BUT THE PART NEEDS REPLACED YOU NEED A NEW INGITION LOCK CYLINDER THIS HAS THE SENSOR BUILT INTO IT ANYWAYS GET IN CAR TRY AND START IT IT MAY OR MAY NOT ATTEMPT TO FIRE AT THIS POINT LEAVE THE KEY IN THE RUN POSITION AND YOU MUST!!!!!!!!! LEAVE IT IN THE RUN POS. FOR APPROX. 10 MINUTES WATCH THE DASH THE THEFT OR SERCURITY LITE WILL BE FLASHING WHAT THIS WILL DO IS THE BODY CONTROL MODULE LOST MEMORY OF YOUR KEY AND HAS TO RELEARN IT AFTER AFTER 10 OR SO MINS. THE LITE WILL REMAIN ON STEADY MEANING NOT BLINKING ANYMORE TURN KEY OFF THEN TRY TO START CAR.. THIS IS NOT A FIX YOU MUST REPLACE PASSLOCK SENSOR.....

PS: HOPE THIS HELPS, AFFORDABLE AUTO SERVICE 724-575-2821..

How do I turn off the security light on the dash of my 97 firebird

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

1994 pontaic firebird wont start security light comes on blinking

This is a problem in your antitheft system. The security light is only for this system. You will need a new key, ignition, or TDM. (THEFT DETERRENT MODULE) The hard part is determining which of these is the problem. You can also bypass this system and use the existing parts. You only bypass the security feature. Oo pontiac firebird security light on car drives normal

Antitheft system has probably been bypassed in a cheap way, or the system is in the verge of failing. As long a it starts and runs fine, don't worry about it. But if car stalls while driving or refuses to start, you'll need to fix the system or bypass it correctly. This link helps.

I got a lot of information about this security stuff from this website. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/ When mine started acting up, i did a bypass on it. It was alot cheaper than a dealer mechanic. If you are looking to fix it correctly, I think taking it to the dealer is the best way to go, like said in above post.... Good luck

Security light stays on in the dash. when the light came on before, the car woulld not start. now it just stays on all the time.

This is a big problem with GM. If the light is staying on there is definitely a problem with the security (Passlock II) and I HATE IT. The only way to fix it is to install a new ignition switch so the resistor reads the computer correctly to start the car, and get GM to reset the light. I had a 97 Cavalier with the EXACT same problem and the dealer had to do it. There are a few ways to bypass it online, but it requires soldering in a resistor and a relay to the ignition switch. I wasn't comfortable with that.
