Behind the brake mounting plate there is a small hole with a rubber plug on the top portion.

Remove the plug. Look from the back of the vehicle and you will see a star wheel in the hole. Stick

a long skinny screw driver with a large blade and rotate it in the direction of risistance.(clockwise).

You will hear a spring poping noise. Rotate a few times and the drums will turn freely.

Then you can slide the drums off.

How to adjust the brake drum of ford escape 2002

all you do is adjust the brake adjuster while turning the drum until you begin to feel resistance of the drum turning. do not over adjust until you have to use too much effort to turn the drum. make sure both drums have similar resistance.

Drums 2002 ford escape

1) Make sure your parking brake isn't on (I've made that mistake),
and
2) Use a RUBBER MALLET to pound lightly on the outside of the drum to free it. Especially if your brake shoes are worn all the way down, it is likely that there is a ridge (a lip) on the inside surface of your brake drum. If this is the case, REPLACE THE BRAKE DRUMS WITH NEW. Check eBay for parts first, as you can often find new brake drums there cheaply.

Spongy brake pedal on 2003 Frod escort zx2.

loosen of the hand-brake adjustment and press the brake pedal a few times to self adjust the rear brakes.
Re-tighten the handbrake adj last.
Front brake sounds like a seized caliper,If possible remove caliper and clean and lubricate the piston.
This may work but replacement caliper may be the only other solution.Make sure the caliper slides are also clean and lubricated and the brake pads are in good order.(TRY THIS FIRST)
Also new brake shoes can make the pedal feel spongy for a couple of hundred miles until they have been run in.

My brakes go to the floor what could it be I changed the master cylider its a 2002 ford escape

Did you bench bleed the replacement master cylinder? If you did and there is NO air in the braking system then look for improperly adjusted rear brakes[if drum],or a siezed caliper slide[s] if disc brake equipped.

How to remove rotor on 2002 escape. Its like really stuck on there

You did not say if front or back. For the rear there is a drum built into the rotor. The emergency brakes are there and may need to be loosened like the old drum brakes before the hub will come off.

For the fronts, it you imagine putting your hand over and around a closed fist- this is what the rust is doing on the backside of the rotor. You need penetrating oil on the lug bolts and may need to chip off rust behind the rotors. Especially in the snowbelt states. You will have some space through the calipers to use a dremmel tool or chisel. A deadblow hammer will help just do not hit the rotors too hard where the brakes rub. If you are scrapping the rotors it does not matter what you use.

You'll have to remove adjuster plug at backing plate, stick something small, in hole & lift adjuster off wheel, then turn wheel with adjuster tool or screwdriver, downward, to loosen.
