Question about 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Hissing around gas tank heard after turned off. Truck has to be turned over three times before it starts. The one time it would not restart the hissing was much louder.

sounds like your fuel pump, is on its last leg. (in tank) dropping your tank is never fun so cut an access hole in your bed, above where your fuel pump is located, its an 1989, so what the hell. its so much easyier. make the opening 12''square. note: there is a ground strap, make sure its attached from pump to fill pipe. study locations of fuel hoses,etc., be careful when removing lock ring, and fuel pump , a repair manuel would be helpful. good luck

Have a 96 gmc jimmy, yesterday filled up at the pump but the gauge reads empty, (bobbed around previously) i heard a whistling sound emirnating from around the gas tank but drove ok, today it cut off...

check for any vacuum leaks which are often the culprits of whistling noises, as for the fuel problem check the fuel pump for pressure, also,, check the filter

My 1996 chevy truck want stay runing,when i push the excelerator it die i change the fuel relay,i reset the distribution timing. please help

You may have the same problem my Wifes car has right now- ice in the fuel line.

Dump a can of DryGas (or "Heet") in the tank, and after about an hour, start your truck. Let it run for 15 minutes or so (restart if it stalls) - if it will not run that long try moving your truck into a warm garage, let it sit for about an hour, and try again.

The DryGas does not perform miracles, and takes time, especially in the bitter cold as of late.

Fuel line icing is usually caused by allowing your vehicle to run nearly empty, and then refueling in cold weather. This causes condensation in the gas tank, which freezes in the gas lines.

I have repeated this mantra to my Wife for nearly our entire 27 years of marraige, but she still will run her tank nearly dry before getting gas, even though it has so far cost us two replacement gas tanks, more than a couple gas tank leak patches (the other problem with running low all the time is rotting out your tank!), and uncounted winter car starting problems. Please help me break the trend!

My fuel tank seems to be building excessive pressure, I've changed the gas cap twice, it doesn't matter if the tank is empty-full!! Also, the truck is hard to start unless I cycle the key two or three...

Yeah that is what it seems like thats why you have to turn your key on so many times to prime your fuel pump. Its not holding pressure in the line while truck is not running.

Turn the key to the start possition and listen for a small humming noise coming from the gas tank if there is one the fuel sending unit is ok if no sound even if you have gotten real close to gas tank and heard nothing then its the fuel sending unit ok

Could be fuel filter, idle air control valve, or idle control sensor, or a vacuum leak.

If you hear a hissing sound from the gas cap then the o ring that seals the tank is either cracked or tore. the tank has to build up pressure. thats where u r hearing the hissing sound replace it, it should stop after.

Truck wont restart when it's ran for greater than 5 min.

Will it restart warm if you hold the accelerator to the floor?

Will not start on first attempt but will on second

fuel pump might be going next time u start your car just turn the key to the on position do not start you should be able to hear the pump kick on and start to pressurize the tank.after a few seconds go ahead and see if it starts on the first crank, if u drive around a lot with a less then quarter tank of gas would recomend to keeping your tank at least a quqrter, because the fuel is what helps keep the diaphram cool, driving around with low gas levels for extended periods of time will cause diaphram to go out faster.if its not, then if you are getting extended crank when u start it up the first time, i would also have the fuel pressure regulator at the top of my list of things to check.

Van just quit running one day and now it wont start at all. tank is full of fuel..

It could be your fuel pump,when you turn your key just befor your engine turns over you should hear your fuel pump engage,its a very faint electrical purr or buzz and a click its a very quiet sound,so if you listen for it the less background sound the better,and a AAA tow truck driver took a miny sledg hammer and banged around my gas tank under my van and it started up and I was able to get to a garage only to replace the fuel pump.Or you can wait till its dark out-side have someone start the engine while you have the hood up and see if you notice a spark anywhere,could be shorting out,or ive heard open your gas cap and try to start it,but im not sure what that would do.
