If it's out that far & you didn't say advanced or retarded, then there's a mechanical issue at hand,more than likely. Use a vaccuum guage & see what happens. If it's reading below 15, better check the timing chain. Could also be a blocked cat converter. The timing is computer controlled & rarely has a problem. Factory is 10 degrees advanced & doesn't change no matter what unless you unplug the coolant sensor & move the distributor. So if it's 12 advanced,no big issue,it's something else causing the lack of power. If it's retarded,you got the timing chain issue more than likely. Write back if you need more help.

Hi can you give me the specs or degrees on how to set my timing with a timing light.i have a 1990 Dakota Dakota 3.9 engine.

Don't have the exact setting but it does not need to be EXACT. it is typically in the 10-20 deg BTDC (before top dead center)
The important part is the truck idles at the correct speed (controlled by the timing when all other systems are working correctly)
Locate the distributor (all of the spark plug wires lead to it) and LOOSEN thebolts holding it in ( 1 - 3 of them), do not remove them, just enough so it will rotate.
Start the truck and turn the distributor until the truck idles at the correct RPM pretty much always in the 500-1000 RPM range. This is assuming there are no air leaks what so ever. If you can not get the engine to idle at the correct rpm by just turning the distributor there are other issues that must be addressed.
If there are air leaks even when the timing is set correctly the engine will rev up WAY to far and if you do manage to get it to idle at the right rpm WITH air leaks it will most likely run too hot and have VERY little power.

How much fluid does the auto trans take in a 2001 dodge durango 4wd take

Welcome to FixYa.

My spec. reference indicates 5 quarts.

To check your fluid level;

To do this you must run the vehicle for at least 15 minutes, place the shifter in all area's one at a time for 5 seconds each from park all the way down to low 1, then all the way back up to park, 5 seconds in each gear then slowly return it to the neutral position, engage the parking brake, then check the fluid level while the D is running. You will need to wipe and check it a couple of times to get the actual level.

My 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup, No headlights.

There is a fuse you may have more then one fuse box look under the hood & under the dash. Most of the time Chrysler will just put a number next to the fuses. Go to your owners manual & see what number is your head light fuse. If you still can't find the right fuse take your test light & check both side of each fuse if one side lights up & one side does not replace it with the same size fuse.

Am am replacing the wheel bearing hub assembly on a 2001 dodge dakota 4x2. How many pounds of torque do i aply to the spindle nut when replacing?

understandably you want to do things right. i do this job by tightening the nut with channel lock pliers, spinning the rotor, and loosening the nut just til loose and then snug. reinstall the castle washer and then a new cotter pin (if available). make sure there is no lateral play(up and down). you should be good to go. happy holidays

Driver side power window won't go up all the way 200 dodge dakota

They often have belts that the motor drives with a gear. If it loose a tooth do to lack of lubrication they will stop wherever the tooth is missing. The only way to know for sure is to remove the panel and move the window down a little and see if this is what is going on.
