Question about 1992 Mitsubishi Mirage
You connect a fuel pressure gauge to it. The gauge set has many adaptors that can be used for almost any cars. It is expensive tho. That is the only way to know how much pressure it is putting out. Althou you dont really need a pressure gauge to find out if it is not putting enough pressure. Symptom of weak fuel pump,is hessitation on acceleration, Altho a malfuntioning ignition system also causes hessitation problem. If you posted exactly what the car is doing, I maybe able to help you without you having to buy a pressure gauge which is very expensive.

You need to rent a Fuel pressure tester tool set from a parts store I do it at schucks cause they return my money when I am done with it, you have to find the fuel pressure port plug in the gage depending on pressure set up and do three procedures to test the pump. the first test involves turning on key for two seconds and read the pressure it should read up to 50 to 60 PSI depending on what system you have. Next you must watch the Gage and see if the fuel pressure goes down below 20 PSI in about a minute, if it does then it is defective, then you can see if the pressure regulator is working by unhooking the line to it and turn the key on for two seconds and see if the pressure goes up to it's max according to your model. if it does not then the fuel regulator is defective and the last test is to keep the Gage hooked up and test drive the car and have the Gage taped to the wiper blade so you can see if it maintains fuel pressure under power and or going up a hill.
