2002 Saturn SL - Periodic problem with it starting.

I'm having periodic problems with my car starting right away, especially after it's been sitting about 6-8 hours. It will crank, but won't fire on the 1st try, but generally does right away when I turn the key the second time. How can I tell if it's my fuel pump or something else?

Absolutely positive this is the fuel pressure regulator. it's on the injector rail on the right side of the rail on the rear of the head. easy to fix yourself. $40 or so.

Sounds like the idle air control valve. Fuel filter, plugs and wires, could also be the fuel injectors. Take it to Auto Zone they will diagnoses it for free. .

Loose serpentine belt

Most likely you need a new belt and tensioner pulley. The tensioner is spring loaded and when they get weak, they allow too much play. The belt can also stretch and they need periodic replacement so do both at the same time.

Take a picture for belt routing or find the diagram on the fan shroud.

You should've changed the coil when you replaced the starter. If you could only do one at a time, I would've gone with the coil first. There is a brass plate that gets charred with carbon build up. Your banging on the coil shakes some of it off, re-establishing a good connection. You can sometimes get away with taking it apart and cleaning all off with a mini-grinder or rotary wire brush. This will confirm it for you and buy you time until payday or your next day off.

Sounds like a thermostat problem to start with. Follow the top rad. hose to the engine. You will have to bleed the system of air after.

CD player won't read CD's!

I've been told CD players in cars need periodic "blowing out" to remove dust and debris. I would see if someone could do that for you, and you could try the cd head cleaner too.

Starter replacement?

If the car dosent sound like its turning over and only giving clicking sounds, than most likely the battery needs to be charged.
