Compressor does not engage when ac is turned on.

If the system is low or has no Freon, the clutch will not engage. Hook up a pressure tester on the low pressure line valve. It should read 30 psi at 65 degrees outside temperature and 50 psi at 85 degrees outside temperature. If there is pressure, then it could be a fuse or AC relay. If there is no pressure, then add freon with some pag oil, plus a leak dye will have to be added to the system from the low pressure valve. Only add 1 16 Oz. can to not over pressurize the system. If the clutch engages, then check for a leak. I would recommend taking this job to a qualified technician, since he would have the necessary equipment to put the system at a vacuum of -30- To empty the system and check for a leak.

What is the correct pressure for freon in AC unit and what is the color of the cap where you add the freon?????

The charging port cap is usually blue, The charging fixture hose will not clip onto the wrong port, so you really can't mess that up. the pressure of a system as measured on the low side hose should be about 28-32 PSI with the system stabilized and engine at operating temperature.

Hi I bought a used volve about 6 months ago. Lately when I use the ac the far left vent blows out warm air and it also is not blowing out as cold of air as it used to. I was going to add some more freon...

> I was going to add some more freon and the gauge that came with the can does not fit the valve. There are normally two valves on the AC lines; one is the low-pressure valve (inlet to the compressor), the other is a high pressure line leaving the compressor and going into the exchanger. The low pressure valve is the point at which Freon is added and pressure is measured with a single valve. The high pressure valve is customarily used only by service personal to determine compressor performance and should never be used to recharge the system; they are intentionally different to avoid rupturing the the Freon container. Trace all of the lines to be sure if you have found the right one to use for recharging and measuring the 'low' pressure side.

Air conditioner does not cool in 2000 Yukon. How do I check freon level and how to replace freon if need be

Get an r134a refrigerant add kit from Walmart or your local auto parts store.

You can even get a can of Arctic Freeze by Intermatics that has a hose and a gauge on it.

Connect the hose to the low side port. You can find this port on the 'thicker' piping that comes off of the compressor (versus the thinner piping that comes off the compressor which is the high pressure side).

Pressure should read 25 psi to 45 psi on the low pressure side when the compressor is running and the a/c is on.

Pressure should read 75 psi to 100 psi on a hot day when the car is off.

However, you'll want the a/c to be running when you add freon.

Press the button on the can to install more freon, if needed.

Where do i add freon to a 1998 dodge durango? i need a pick of the place to add it to.

All you need to do is to trace the thicker piping of freon from the compressor to the low side port. The thinner piping is the high pressure side.

I have a 2005 buick rainier i need to know where is the low pressure port where i can add freon at

Add freon on the low side port:

The low side port is located on the thicker piping vs. the thinner piping.
It may have a black or blue cap.
The hose, don't worry' won't fit anything but this quick connector,

1992 ford aerostar ac not working

Below is a guide to troubleshoot and check system function. This can be done by most folks.

Look at the front of the ac compressor and have someone turn on the ac from inside the car. The front of the pulley(clutch) will spin when turned on.

If it does not spin, the low pressure switch (LPS) is not satisfied. Meaning there is not enough freon in the system to operate the system. Means low freon capicity because of a leak.

The LPS can be jumpered to cause the compressor to run (clutch to engaged) which will draw the freon in the system.

The LPS is usually a two wire sensor on the suction of the compressor. (between evaporator and compressor) Unplug the sensor and install a jumper, this will engage the clutch. Connect a new can of freon
and fill to system capacity.

The capacity of the ac system will be on a label under the hood, do not overfill. Probably about 2 lbs. Local parts stores (Auto Zone and Advance) will have freon with stop leak. This may help the leak. They also make a freon with a UV dye. I always add a single can with dye so that if stop leak does not work I can find the leak in the future.

The system should be filled until suction pressure is about 30 to 38 psi..

Remember the flow for the a/c system is :
1. From the compressor a high pressure (HP) gas goes to the condenser in front of the radiator.
2. From the condenser a HP2_bing.gif liquid goes to an expansion device (orifice tube or expansion valve)
3. From expansion device the low pressure gas enters the firewall to the evaporator.
4. From evaporator the low pressure liquid/gas mixture goes through the dryer back to the compressor suction.
