My 2001 VW Beetle started losing speed when I go up a hill, and when I try to excellerate, it bogs down worse and the check engine light flashes off and on.

you sound like your catylitic converter is trying to stop up. When this happens check and have someone race the engine and fill and see if you have a good flow of exhaust coming out of your tail pipe and see if it is real hot .A good way is if it happens at night look at yourn converter and see if its red from the converter to the engine thats a sure sign thats your converter is stopped up.If its not then if the light stays on go to an advance store or some other place and they wont charge you to check and tell you what the obd 2 code is and post that back and let me know what the code is .Hope This Helps

2005 vw beetle 2.0 engine what is code p0171 and how to fix it ?

P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1) In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
* Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
* Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

Check Engine Light see codes below

P0171 is LEAN and P0303 is misfire number 3 cyl. Its time to stop guessing and pay for a correct diagnosis. Find a shop that works on VW and has the tools to work on it. DO NOT put those Bosch Platinum Spark plugs in that Ottozone tries to sell everybody.

I have a 2001 VW bug and the engine light has came on and is give this code P0171 bank1 to lean

O2 Sensor - on bank1
Now, just because you get a code for that sensor, while it may need to be replaced,it may also have set a code, because of a vacuum leak or an engine misfire, and the O2 Sensor ,then went out of range, and not necessarily bad
Do not throw parts at it
Have it properly diagnosed and properly repaired..

Check engine lite is on 2005 volkswagen beetle

whenever this check light is turned on a fault code for the problem that caused the powertrain control module (computer controller) to turn on the check engine light sets a fault code in its memory, this code is key to finding the problem, u can have the system checked for free by any Kragen, Autozone or other discount parts store like them, get the code(s) and post them back here and we will try and give you the answer to what is wrong.

My 2001 VW Beetle is stalling. I had a tune up done and the mass air flow sensor and it is still happenning. The check engine light comes on and flashes then it stays on.

check engine light flashing means misfire and it staying on is probably because of your o2 sensor picking up all the unburnt fuel. check all the spark plugs again and make sure you didn't cross any wires. i'm pretty sure the wires were crossed or the spark plugs were fouled

Code PO 238 on 2001 VW Beetle where do i start

The P0238 code relates to a Turbo Boost sensor pressure High. The P0106 is a MAP sensor code and could be caused by a bad or loose hose to the MAP sensor and can cause the P0171 which is system to lean code. The P0297 is a vehicle overspeed code. Hope this helps you some.
