My 97 BMW 318 is started making this god awful thud sound it was a continuos sound. Then I pulled up at a stop light freaking out cause I don't know much about cars but it cut off completely then I turned it back on and it did the same thing in the middle of one of the busiest highways in Alabama. A gray hazing smoking came from the engine. I don't know what's wrong with it. Does it need more oil? did I blow the engine. Supposivley I need a new head gasket but would that cause the thud noise and for it to cut off and sound like that ?

That sounds quite urgent -- maybe see mechanic straight away... because something is very very wrong going on there!!! No one would be able to fix without seeing the problem....

SOURCE: 1998 leganza motor smokes when it warms up

If the smoke is white, or steam it is water. you might have cracked the head or warped it. Did you get it looked at before you put the new gasket on? If the smoke is black then it is oil. Do a compression check and see if you don't have a bad cylinder. They should all be about the same give or take 5 lbs.

Pull it back out and bend the tabs in the plug also bend the tabs in the light socket. You only need to bend them a little, just enough to make contact.

Your options: Pull radio and have BMW send in for repairs (usual about 10 day turn around time) OR replace with aftermarket radio. Internal heat sometimes gets to factory BMW radios. You might also check Ebay for a factory replacement, just make sure you get code for new radio.

the relay is in the fusebox under the bonnet, turn lights on and pull the relays one at a time till they go off, i have done a couple.

the light should be on when air con is working. only works when the blower is on ,ie heater blower switch on=air con light lit up = aircon working.

Go to your cellular phone company and tell them the problem, they got t fix it. unless you didn't bought the Idrive from there... in that case buy a new Bluetooth from them and insure it.
