Question about 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

It takes 3 times to crank engine over.

I have changed the fuel filter and was told the next thing it probably was a fuel pump. something abouit the bladder having a small hole in it and keeping the vehicle from starting right away. I need to know how to install a fuel pump in a 2001 suburban 1500 or if it couild be something else.I think the fuel pump is in the gas tank.

This is where proper testing is essential....Will it start on the first try if you just leave the key on for a minute instead of cranking several times? if not, you may have a pressure drop on the injector side. Generally you then are clearing excess fuel before it will start. Only testing will give you that information...guessing can be expensive (pumps can run up to $200)

96 T100 (3.4), will only run for 2-3 seconds then quit, change fuel filter, pump, cam sensor and crank sensor still won't run, but will run on ether. Where to go next?

What you are telling me is the engine is firing the plugs but not getting fuel.
When you changed the fuel pump and filter, did you check the fuel pressure at the rail ?
Are the injectors getting power and ground pulse ??

Car turns over but will not start.

If your car will not start but will crank over then this will tell you where the problem is. An engine needs 3 things to run. Fuel, air, and spark. The way to tell if it is a fuel problem is to take starting fluid and spray in the air cleaner. And if it starts, then it is a fuel problem. Usually a fuel pump, fuel pump relay, or the fuel filter. If it does not start. Then the next thing to check is spark. If you have no spark then it could be several different things. But then you will at least know it is something to do with the electrical system. There are some cases where the timing belt jumps a tooth and makes the timing off where you will get spark and the car still won't start. Usually in this case the car will start, but backfire and run terrible. If you have fuel and spark then it could be the air filter dirty, mass air flow sensor, or something to do with air. I hope that this helps!

Have a 2001 jaguar vanden plas. It won't start. It cranks fine battery is good but it won't turn over. I have been told could be fuel filter and or fuel pump. If you agree how do i change

To confirm that is is the fuel pump at issue here get a can of spray starting fluid and next time it won't fire up spray it into the air intake hose of the engine while someone cranks the engine over, if it lights right off then the pump may be the problem. A clogged fuel filter may cause loss of power but seldom if ever a no start.

Car started only after several cranks, was told fuel pump replacement, is it normal with 68,000 miles?

You probably have a submersable pump. If you have run the gas on below 1/4 tank for some time, you probably burned out the pump. Alway fill up 1/2 tank or more.

And with the mileage, it isn't unusual to replace the pump.
