Where is Knock sensor Toyota Previa '93 - Above or beneath engine

Toyota Previa 1993 4WD not SuperCharged.
The knock sensor is apparently faulty, but I cannot seem to find it. Do I access it through the passengerseat, or from beneath the car?

Can I change it myself rather easily, or does then entire engine need to be lowered?

Thanks in advance
Johan from Sweden

SOURCE: Location of knock sensor on 1994 toyota 22vre engine

The Knock sensor on a 22re is located under the intake manifold on the engine block. to the upper left of the oil filter. With is the passenger side of the engine. I believe it is yellow in color. Not do be confused with the oil pressure sensor which is close by. The knock sensor has a larger electrical connector. Good luck it can be hard to get to.

SOURCE: 91 Toyota Previa AWD - Swap original engine for Previa Supercharged engine

I do a lot of work on Toyota Previa before; including rebuilt engine, swapping engine and transmission and lot of things in between, but never swap a normal aspirated engine to a supercharged engine or diesel. Since i have some experience in Previa, I would like to share my opinion with you regarding your plan to swapping the normal aspirated Previa engine to a Supercharged engine. When you do a swapp like that, you will not only be dealing with just swapping engine, but some wiring, computer, throttle body, air cleaner assembly, extra frame and pulley on the accessory items, transmission as well as a right rear end to get the correct gear ratio to accomodate the new engine and transmission. I can go on even more, but let me tell you this, beside less headache, it would definitely cheaper if you were to find a Supercharged Previa and fix it up. However, if you are totally motivated to do this project, keep in mind, this engine swap will be a long term and time consuming project.l I wish you best of luck and have fun!

SOURCE: 2005 Toyota Camry - knock sensor

Your sensor went off because it overknocked.
Try using a different type of fuel with a higher octane.
Erase the code and use the better gas. if it comes back then we will worry about replacing it.

I have a 95 oldsmobile 98 regency elite I cant find where the knock sensor goes I have a haynes manual but where it shows it wont go

Well, for starters, your problem got posted under 1985 Oldsmobile 98 - then you said it was a 95 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Elite (HUGE difference between 85 and 95)...then it would be REALLY nice to know which engine we are talking about.

I'll just go with what you said last: 1995 Oldsmobile Regency Elite (Two engine possibilities)

If you have the 3.8L Supercharged engine (VIN CODE "1") it is on the left side of the engine near the oil filter.

If you have the non-supercharged 3.8L (VIN CODE "K") there are TWO of them. One is near the oil filter and the other one is in about the same location on the other side of the engine block.

Please also note that MOST fault codes for knock sensors are not caused by the knock sensors themselves. (they do fail, but it is very rare.) Usually there is either a wiring problem to the knock sensor, or the engine has internal problems causing a "knocking" or "ticking" noise which causes the engine computer to "think" that there is a problem with pre-detonation causing an "ignition ping". The code sets when the computer has retarded the ignition timing as far as it can and the "knock" or "ping" does not go away....usually it doesn't go away because it is not caused by ignition timing. The knock sensor is just doing its job and reporting the knock. It does not know the difference between a knock caused by ignition and a knock caused by internal engine problems.

Toyota previa stalled (died suddenly) while being driven it feels like there's a hiccup in the engine no matter how hard i press the accelerator it won't accelerate!

Ika, has it started back? If not, it may be a timing belt/chain broke. If it cranks, it may be a fuel pump, filter, pinched gas lines, or bad fuel injectors. It may be a problem in the ignitions. Spark plugs, coils, wires, distributor, coil pack, dist.cap, If it is not cranking, check ignition fuse. Check battery, wires, and whole charging system. If it is just dying on you and it starts back, it may be a map sensor, idle sensor or throttle sensor possibly. Need a little more info please.

We made the terrible mistake in buying a Toyota Previa long distance. We love them and this is our third, but this one, a 1996 Alltrac, arrived with a seemingly unsolvable problem. This car has no power....

Accessing the knock sensor is not a hard job when the front seats and floor are removed, should take no longer that 2 hours at a dealership. It is a common fault for the knock sensor to fail & will give obvious problems with power. Also, the check engine light should illuminate. Very sorry you have had to spend this kind of money.

What does code 52 means on the toyota corolla 2000 model in SA.

DTC 52 on a 93 Corolla is a Knock Sensor code. I replace the knock sensor; it is located on the side of the engine block, on the side of the engine that faces the firewall. It is in the center; under the intake manifold.
