The viscosity rating of an oil has nothing to to with the ability to protect. 5w30, 15w50, etc. is a measure of how quickly the oil flows at two different temperatures.

There have been thousands of pages worth of arguments on this very subject over the years. What is boils down to is ANY oil you use of the proper viscosity rating will protect your engine. Synthetic oils start out with ZERO ash content and fewer other contaminants so they will likely protect longer. Unless you run your conventional oil past the point it is no longer providing adequate protection this is of no benefit. Where exactly is "the point it is no longer providing adequate protection"? There is no way to tell without a regular oil analysis.

Use the correct viscosity rating and change your oil and filter regularly. That's all you need to do.

My personal choice is a quality synthetic, even the worst rated, exceed the performance level of conventional lubricants. I made this choice after over a year of research and experimentation and was totally convinced after use in 7,000 hp engines proved their thermal stability and lubricity retention beyond any doubt. A good choice for street use is Quaker state (wally world store brand is same) Use a 20-40 or better... (most synthetics actually exceed those numbers but would scare people with actual ones (stuff I use is 0-50 but it's over $9.00 per quart.) Don't forget that the most important part is to use a good quality filter ...the lowest micron rating is the best. I get 300k+ from all my engines, and haven't had an oil related internal failure in over twenty years!!!
Good luck!

It depends on what you want to do, lower oil weight gives better fuel mileage but give less protection and the manufacture recommends 5 30 for that car, I myself use mobil 10-40 synthetic motor oil, I Can run it longer and I don't have the wear problems I do with other oils and for foreign cars I recommend castrol 5-30 or 10-40 But highly recommend the 10-40 to protect the engine you might get a slight drag on engine oil but a little less mileange is better than losing a engine over.

Chevy oil filter stuck on

try a different type of oil filter wrench, the type that fits on the top of the oil filter, like a wrench that fits on a nut. Be sure the filter is really clean too, any oil on it can make the wrench slip. When you put it back on put a but of oil around the seal so it doesn't get stuck again.

What type of oil does a 2002 jaguar x-type take? I was never given a manual.

The car takes 5w-30 semi synthetic oil. However, if you have never put synthetic oil in the car I would recommend using regular oil. I would also advise you check with your local jaguar dealer. The reason for this is if your car is not use to that kind of oil from day one it could cause seal leaks.

Motor oil type

The owner's manual should tell you what the recommended oil should be. Unless they totally screwed up on your oil viscosity, I don't think it's should be too noticeable. Perhaps they did not put the same oil filter, and put in a cheap filter too?

Can i drain the transmission fluid on a 05 suzuki forenza my self?

yes. HOWEVER, whe you refill it. make sure that you put in the correct type of oil. refer to your owner manual prior to putting in any old automatice trranny fluid as some tranny's require a sopecial type of oil, put in the wrong one and you fry your transmission. If its a standard, put in the correct weight of gear oil. Not trying to scare you, but i want to make sure that your REFER TO YOUR OWNERS MANUAL for the correct type of oil to put in after you drain it.

good luck.
