While the engine is running, wiggle some wires around the ignition system. If the engine dies You found it. Does it have any kind of warning on the dashboard before it dies?

is the check engine light on?if you have no spark, start with the wires, and work your way back. you say that you replaced the coil packs..... it could be a crank position sensor. please get back to me if the check engine light is on. also, let me know what happened from the start. were you driving? has the car sat for a while?

My 1986 buick century limited will just die in the middle of my driving it. It caught me by complete suprise when I was driving along and all the sudden my service lights are on, the ones that light up...

Sound's like your on the way to fixing the problem, if the drive belt is not working properly it could cause all kind's of problem's, including service light's coming on while driving. i'm guessing when your idle there's no problem, until you start to accelerate the belt is probably slipping on the pulley's. The drive-belt drive's the alternator which charge's the battery, the stalling may be coming from the alternator not charging the battery.

The first thing I would do is be sure that your ignition switch is not shorting out, then I would be looking at the solenoid on the starter. The solenoid is the most common thing that fails and causes this to happen, eventually it will burn out and the starter will be done for. The reason I suggested checking your ignition switch first is because of the simple fact that I don't know your cars history. Good luck and remember to rate all the solutions that you get on FixYa, thanx
