Coolant gauge jumping into the red as soon as car starts

I was driving last night for about 15 mins when I noticed my gauge jumped into the red. I pulled over filled my reserve let the car sit for about 6 hours. I can back filled the radiator and my gauge immediately jumped all the way to red. The car was def. not hot bc it sat all night. I am unemployed, getting divorced, and moving out of my home in the next few weeks. I cant afford to have my car break. What ais the cheapest most likely solution that I can try before trying to get it into a mechanic?????

I would certainly go with the preivious post & start with the sending unit. According to the manual, you should look at the sending unit or the guage itself. If it does turn out to be the gauge -The most inexpensive way to fix it would probably be to install an aftermarket tempurature gauge (like an under-dash kit) . Good luck. If the needle flicks all the way to "Hot" with the IGNITION ON, but without starting the car, you probably have a faulty temperature sender. To confirm it is faulty (without proper test equipment) just disconnect the wire going to it, if the reading falls back to zilch that's what is causing it. The temp sender is often located on/near the thermostat on most cars. Temp Senders are easy enough to change, and are available at all auto parts stores. Check out the availability and price at your local auto store and decide for yourself if you want to have a crack at it.

What would cause temperature gauge bouncing ?

Sounds like the sending unit has an intermittent short to ground. Unhook the the wire from the sending unit, and see if the needle stops jumping around. If it quits jumping around, replace the sending unit. If it still jumps around, you have a bare spot somewhere on the wire and it is hitting ground which will cause the needle to jump. Cut out the bad part of the wire and splice in a new section. That should fix it.

check your oil and see if your getting coolant in it.. if u take the oil fill cap off and look inside the valve cover.. if it looks like coffee u probably have a blown head gasket.. also check the coolant and see if it is low or looks like oil is getting into it... also if your coolant has ever got low/ leaked out..u may have a air pocket inside the engine.. but if i know my hondas like i think i do... chances are u got a blown head gasket... if u dont notice the coolant in the oil right away dont worry if u keep driving it with these symptoms u will soon enough...

Car will not stay on after I JUMP START

Just try to keep the gas and drive for at leat 15 min HWY if possible. Yes, it will turn off if you let go the gas, but it will restart and stay on as long as you press on gas. Just keep on driving and the computer will readjust the emission inputs and will get back to normal.

I would make sure the Termostat u instaled is correct. Also have the Coolant system flushed and replaced. The gauge may not be reading properly which could be the sending unit. You have already replaced the main components that fail. Hope this helps and have a great day.

06 f150 if lights left on for under 10 min truck needs jump

your first three words...battery checks ok....??? See why its difficult to do this from my end?
Anyhow, here are a few suggestions to keep new battery OK.
If you like to sit in parking lots (or other places) with the radio on, put a small battery charger on your battery every month or so to bring it back to fully charged.
If you run the battery down by leaving anything on (key, dome light headlamps, and need a jump to start, charge the battery with charger also, as soon as you can. Reason is, your alternator is not designed to charge a battery. It's purpose is to maintain the state of charge in the battery. Though it may seem OK after a jump and drive, it will never again have a deep charge unless you put it there with a charger.
This also overworks the alternator.
So aside from keeping it clean on the outside, if you follow this rule it will be happy on the inside and give you even longer than its expected service life in return. Good luck with your car!!
