Question about 1990 Dodge Ram

I hear a loud rumming sound towards the back under the body while driving. Sounds like its coming from the axle or tires. Tires are aired up.

It might be the axle itself. I have worked on a ram before, of about the same year, and indeed it was the axle. The noise was more of a loud rapidly clicking noise. If that is the sound you can bet on it.

First get your wheel balance checked .... Sometimes the balance weights come off !
If that checks out ok and the tires are good then I would be checking the rear wheel bearings.
Let me know how you get on.

My car sounds like a jet taking off the faster I go

If it sounds like a jet taking off then it's most likely some rush of air so where/how does air under pressure come from? Well, it comes from your exhaust but you said that's been replaced. Could be a cylinder head gasket in a engine but you would have felt a lose of power if that was the problem.
Is it a bearing that just sounds like an air sound? As I've suggested with other people...have someone follow you, then pull up along side of you on both sides and see if they can hear/isolate where the sound is coming from.

Sometimes when you're driving it's hard to hear exactly where the sound is coming from because well....you're driving!
So having two people in another car riding along side of you on the highway or unpopulated back road can hear it better.

Just remember to do it safely...you are on the road after all but if you hear it at 40...you should be able to hear it loud and clear at 55 or 65 or whatever the speed limit is.

Going too slow on the highway is dangerous too so obey the speed limits.

Loud noise coming from transfer case after replacing rear end

Sounds like the Drive line could be at too extreme of an angle. If so you'll have to rotate the axle a little to decease the bind. It happens when you lift.

only on right turns?? a smaller tire would have resulted in damage if the rear is a locking type rearend. IF it is a locking rear end I would change the oil, noting the color and how it looks. replace it and add some "slip additive"............. IF its not a locking type axle, maybe a spider gear problem, but thats inside the housing, not out by the wheel. You may need to take the axle out and inspect the axle/ bearing.

Very loud "rubbing " sound when driving only

you did damage to the wheel bearing i bet it sounds like a airplane sound. also if you steering wheel is off 7"then have front end aligned because this will destroy the tires and they will make noise.

I have a strange sound coming from my car as I am driving it. It sounds like lawn mower or a loud and heavy humming sound.

axle cvc joints or its your tiress,,,,most likely tires,,but if you jack front wheeels and have someone put in gear and listen as you turn wheels left to right,,if no noise,,,get some tires and an alignment

Roaring sound comming from front of car

The deeper or bolder the tread cut will cause more 'road noise'. The only solution would be to replace tires with manufature recommended tread design. You could also increase insulation under your carpetting or spray on "body insulation" on firewall to dampen the sound.

sounds like c/v axles (front drive shafts) they will make a clicking sound normally when turning sharp and accell at the same time at slow speeds / look at the axle boots and look for grease on the inside of the front wheels leaking out the axle boots
