Question about 1997 Hyundai Elantra
Just a question on Hyundai Lantra Auto Wagon, 1997. Took for a driveand the '' Check Engine'' light was on, but doesn't need oil or wateretc..what could this mean other than that
If you have a look in your owners manual it says the engine warning light is linked to the exhaust system. i've talked to a couple of mechanics and they reckon its the oxy sensor. i tend to agree with this as nothing else unusual has happened with my car when this was happening and it was under fueling at the time.
it could also be a short as a couple of times when it happened, while on the move i killed the engine and re-started it and it didn't reappear. after using a bit of injector cleaner and a good service it hasn't happened since.
i wasn't able to get it plugged into a computer because it never stayed on after turning the ignition off.

There are alot of things it could be. Faulty sensors or valves. For the most part though, when it is low on oil or water. There are no warning lights. Oil pressure warning lights and heat gauges for water. No lights for being low on those things. Take it to the dealer is the best bet and they will plug it into a scanner that will tell why the Check engine light is coming on. Hope it helps!

This could be a lot of things. The 'check engine' light is only an indication that somethign is wrong. this usually only means that a sensor that determines how the car will rn is broken, wore out, or lost connection. I would take it by a shop.
what they will do is plug your car into a computer ( that costs thousands) and the computer will give them a code that will give hints to what happened and what needs attention.
if the light is only on sometimes then it's just a connection but on all the tiem you need a new sensor somewhere. hope this helps
