Question about 1986 Honda Prelude

Just replaced timing and doesnt start

Im not so hot on timing and i set everythig right had it a tdc and marks were all in order.but the car wont start and its getting fuel and spark.what did i do wrong ...

On the cranck pulley there are 2 timing spots. The first one that you want is a single notch,that is the tdc mark, the group of 3 marks are the timing marks after it is running.

96 corsica wont start when hot replace crank sensor and still does it 2.2 any help

nice guess. hot soak failures.
you failed
you failed to check spark, if spark is good, then it not that.
4 spark plugs tested,(ever tune it up?) and use a timing
light to see if it hits everytime and on the mark,
yes, timing lights work on cranking motors,
they do not prove spark intensity only test spark plug does that.
when hot? what's hot?

does that mean out door too hot or engine coolant.?
we have 85f temps now. air temp.. but you?
so... no location stated. make any help at all hard.
hot engine no starts.
1: engine gets hot and looses compression
2: lost spark. (yes, the Cam sensor can fail hot block. yes)
3: lost fueling, or floods,?
the tests are simple and do them in order to save huge wastes of time and guessing and huge wasted cash on useless parts.

you could just watch scotty. it gets this right. (skip ad)

There's a chance the cam and crank gears are not in line with each other. You could try placing the rotor 180 degrees from TDC and see how it does.

I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 5.2 4x4 i have a new crank sensor a new timing chain and gear new fuel pump and sending unit or whatever and my truck still wont start someone help me im also tdc

First question is are you getting spark to the plugs ?
Then are you getting fuel to the injectors, and injector pulse ?
Have you checked the ASD relay ?
I would check those things next.

I set the timing TDC and matched up all of the marks but still wont start I rotated the crankshaft two times and everything lines up but still wont start what am I missing?

Has the engine been stripped down at all? If it has, the cam may be 1/2 turn off and should be realigned. Make sure no 1 cylinder is at TDC and that the valves are not moving . On a 4 cylinder you will se the valve change on cyl.4 when cyl 1 is TDC. Check that you have spark on any cylinder by fitting a spark plug and hold it to earth. Check your coil lead.

You might not have #1 at tdc on the COMPRESSION stroke. You're trying to get it to tdc the hard way. Take #1 plug out and have someone bump the starter while you hold your thumb over the plug hole. You'll know when its a tdc cause it'll blow your thumb off. When youve got it close, turn the crank to absolute tdc using the timing marks on the harmonic balancer. Take the distributor out and pull the cap off. Then turn the distributor rotor to point at the #1 plug on the distributor cap. Put the distributor back in and put the cap back on. Make sure that the oil pump slot lines up right, as the distributor won't sit flush until its right. If its not lined up, take a long flathead screwdriver and turn the oil pump to make the two line up. Last, make sure the wires are on the right plugs on the cap using the firing order cast into the intake manifold. Remember that the rotor turns COUNTER clockwise.

I know how to set the timing on an engine but im having a problem setting the distributor after doing the head gaskets on my 98 blazer 4.3, im seeing 2 makes on the damper and im not sure which one is the...

The TDC mark is usually the second one in the direction of rotation. To make sure you have the right mark, if you still have the tappet cover off, number 1 cylinder valves should rock at TDC when you move the crank backwards and forwards.
