Question about Ford Expedition

1 Answer

While on vacation we climbed a very steel mountian road for several miles. Our 2000 ford expedition started leaking trans fluid. Is this because the trans overheated? Is there a overflow on this truck?

Wont start ignition coil

Most likely you have several bad cop ignition coils

That is common on fords-they last 6 to 7 years

If you have a shop get involved with scan tool data
& road test, they will get caught up on the Preventative
Maintenance no one does, replace the bad coils, old
oxygen sensors & things that have been neglected

Fuel injectors leak on some 2004 to 2006 expeditions
& navigators & then with that & the coil issue ,ruin the
exhaust converter, then no one changes the trans fluid
& it fails

Problem solved

My 2006 expedition moves very little when i give it a lot of gas

Do you mean you see a foamy type fluid on dipstick? Just try pouring in 2 quarts of fluid and see if it starts moving after that. Also look by radiator to see if you see trans fluid leaking from trans cooler lines.

This is simple the air suspension air bags are leaking, they last about 75-100,00 miles on this model, even less if driven on harsh roads or off road.

I have a 2000 Ford Expedition (Eddie Bauer), 5.4 with 65,000 miles. It has recently started having a hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear in a slow acceleration. I have serviced the trans filter and fluids,...

You should change trans & power steering fluids
every 30,000 miles on all vehicles,if you don't from
when the vehicle was new,you will have problems

Changing the trans fluid only restores the heat removal
properties,it does not fix a single thing, at all

The shift stratagy is determined by several things

Check that the TPS Sensor is working without worn
spots inside it.

No adjustments to make

You could have the sensors checked with a scanner
while driving it.

You have a delayed 1-2 shift

The are servos that apply bands etc,I think
in the end you will be pulling the trans to rebuild
it,as you will be chasing several possibilities, that I
believe will be hardened internal seals from time,
wear & mostly heat

You didn't mention mileage or other past issues
with the trans etc or if your the second owner
etc

They don't normally go 11 years

I have a 2000 Dodge Neon, I was driving down the road and it made a grinding noise and died... It started spraying coolant everywhere. I've tried to restart it, but it won't start. It turns over, just...

more than likely the radiator went and has affected the transmission lines thus the car will not start.happend to me and all the trans fluid had leaked down the road the car stalled and then overheated would not move .only saw coolant not trans fluid since it drip out on the road prior to stalling.another option is the water pump or center freeze plug our had rusted through before and was a hassle to replace

Smoking auto tranny

I had a similar problem with my ford 1/2 ton pulling a trailer on a grade against the wind on hot day. thought I completely fried the tranny. Let it cool off, continued the trip and drove the truck for years with no more problems. Can't explain how your dip stick was dry however. The dipstick should have been wet with foamed trans oil.

My 2000 ford Expedition Eddie Bauer is having problems with the transmission. It seems to have trouble when deciding to shift. The car will stutter but the RPM's remain constant. Doesn't feel like slip....

HAS THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER BEEN CHANGED? IT IS DUE EVERY 60,000 MILES, TRANS FLUID HAS WHAT ARE CALLED "FRICTION MODIFIERS" IN IT, THEY WEAR OUT AND CAN CAUSE THE CHATTER YOU FEEL.

My 2004 Ford Expedition has 75,000 miles on it and last week, the transmission started slipping when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. This only occurs occassionally. Any suggestions?

you have a internal pressure seal leaking or a defective valve body check ball, changing the trans fluid and filter can cure this if you haven't let it go on to long, if you keep driving it the direct clutch will be damaged and you will need a new trans.
