Hissing noise when releasing brake pedal

When releasing brake pedal, a hissing noise is heard coming from the pedal or console area. The nissing just started yesterday. It sounds like a vacuum leak. When the car is turned off, the noise goes away.

My brake pedal will not budge, and a hissing noise present when running

The stop lights won't go out until the pedal is depressed, as there is a switch which is activated by the pedal.

A hard brake pedal is probably caused by a defective servo. The hissing noise is probably an air leak in the servo.

Switch the engine on, open the bonnet (the hood..) and see if you can locate the hissing - that'll probably be in the brake servo area.

If you don't know what a brake servo looks like here is a generic image:

Hissing brakes

IT is probably a vacuum leak in the brake booster. With the pedal going to the floor There is either no brake fluid or you will have to bleed the system. Replace the booster and bleed the brakes starting at the longest line first

Sounds like a possible air pocket in the braking system. Do you know how the bleed the brakes? They may need to be bled. Also, if you've added brake fluid recently, and didn't put the cap back on, it could create a suction. Another note is to check the cap to the brake fluid reservoir. It's rare, but, it could be bad.

You need to have the brakes inspected. This noise is the brake pad wear warning tab hitting the brake rotor.;

All of a sudden my brake pedal is very soft, and makes a short hissing noise while being depressed. The hissing seems to be coming from that diaphram area above the brake pedal. The master cylinder is...

right, your booster diaphram has torn. You will have to replace the booster. Often this can be done without breaking the hydraulic system open. If you would like to do it yourself, let me know and I will send instructions.

Is there any problems with the brakes besides the noise? If theyre acting up, it could be your brake booster. It's hard to determine without more specific details, brakes always make a quiet hissing noise, depends on where, how loud, how the pedal feels...
