Question about 1998 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

Could timing chain be broke? Update to this problem: I was told bt a FixYa expert to spray starting fluid into throttle body and see if it will start. I just tried to start with starting fluid, still no response. When I try to start it smells flooded, I smell gas. Below is my original request: I have a 1998 Isuzu Hombre 2.2L two wheel drive pickup (Made by GM is same as Chevy S10). Ok, here is my problem. It just suddenly stopped running with no warning. It will crank but shows no sign of trying to start. I checked the following items and all are good: ignition module, coils, has good spark, fuel pump is good and delivering strongly to fuel rail, fuel filter is new, battery is good. Now, I think the problem is the injectors. But before I remove the air intake manifold to possibley check the injectors is there anything else I can check before doing this? Is it possible that it could be the oil pressure sender that is bad or maybe the fuel pump relay? I know your probably saying that the fuel pump wouldn't run if relay was bad, but about 4 years ago my fuel pump stopped pumping so I replaced with new one and it still didn't pump so I wired it directly to a wire that was hot only when ignition key switch is on. That solved my fuel pump problem. So, what I'm thinking is: since I bypassed the fuel pump circuit 4 years ago could it now be this circuit that is shutting down power to injectors even though fuel pump is still running due to bypassing the circuit. I'm a member of FixYa and I provide my expertise in solving washer and dryer problems. I'm a mechanically inclined person but auto mechanics are not my specialty, I'm hoping that it's yours if your looking at this. Please help.

    So, your saying that for sure if timing chain was broke I would not have spark? Please explain. Are you sure that this is correct for my specific engine 2.2L 1998 Isuzu Hombre (Chevy S10)?

It is possible was the engine rattling before it quite .if so the chain could have broke .Do a compression check the cylinders should be at least 120 psi.You should have smelled fuel before but you thought the injectors were bad so i assumed you didnt smell any gas.

The oil pressure sender is a good idea.It sounds like you know what your talking about have you tried spraying a little starting fluid in the throttle body to see if it will start?do you have an injection pulse tester you will need one.if you have no injector pulse but of have spark suspect a bad quad driver in the computer.or possible oil sending unit but this usally just shuts down the pump.Good luck let me know.

Get a good psi reading on the fuel pressure. These engines are very picky if the pressure is + - more than 7psi it will not open the injectors correctly.
Is it a vortec?

After trying to start, did you pull plugs & inspect them for wet from fuel, as you said you smelled fuel like it was flooding? Also keep in mind MAP sensor also provides info to VCM which then regulates fuel delivery & timing from info supplied by MAP sensor.

If it has known good spark and fuel pressure try spraying carb cleaner in the throttle body while cranking engine to see if it will crank.

have u checked ur timing chain/belt? or even the crankshaft sensor? The crank sensor (if bad or broke) will cut out the spark to ur plugs. hope this helps

Inspect the wires make sure they are connected properly on both ends and the wire casings are not damaned, cracked or melted. If they were put on the wrong plugs that should trigger a ses light but worth checking. make sure all the vacuum lines are connected andnot cracked. with the vehicle running use a spray bottle and spray aroung the vacuum hoses for wear (cracking) and the bottom of the throttle body to see if the vehicle bogs down, if so you need a throttle body gasket. You just need to check a few things to check.

Spray starter fluid into the throttle body if it still refuses to start, consider the timing chain or belt.

I have a 1998 Chevy Blazer 4.3 Vortech that will not start.

You may want to check your fuel regulator and check your injectors. Had the same issue with a 96 and replaced the whole CSFI spider assembly with a MFI spider assembly and problem was solved.

My Tahoe cranks but won't start.

Check your plug wires and plugs. If they appear ok, check to make sure it is getting fuel. If it has a throttle body you can put fuel in the throttle body directly, if not and only do this once or twice, you can spray starting fluid in the air intake. If it catches with either of these you need to move to checking the fuel system. If you have fuel injection, check the pressure at the fuel rails to make sure you have pressure, if you don't check the fuses for your fuel pump. At this point, if all of these are good, my next step would be to check and see if the timing belt broke. In some of these models it is an actual belt not a chain, if this has broken you have a major repair coming and need to get a Chilton's repair manual before you go any further as you will need step by step instructions for the repair.

Car was running fine, now won't crank. It turns over. Some told me timing chain, distributor, injectors, spray carb spray in throttle body or something like that. Can you please help me?

You are saying that the engine will crank or turn over but will not start? If so then you must fine out if the engine has both fuel and spark. after that you can get into the right direction. You can use starting fluid to see is there is a fuel issue. Read the directions on the can. Using too much can harm you and/or your engine.
