I've checked the cab ignition fuse = okay. I switched the engine compartment fuse with the fan fuse (same rating) = okay. I sanded the terminals = okay + spark on positive.

  • jgb_acc Jun 27, 2009

Right - could be the starter - will ground the positive and listen/look for spin - Note that the engine always turned over like a charm. Is there a lockout? Could fob have triggered anti-theft? What about fuel pump? Where can I find a schematic of the safety tree?

It sounds like the nuteral saftey switch,, it is at the bottom of the steering coulum, when you turn your key it pushes a rod to ingage the electronics but if it goes bad it will shut down the power, it has a large plug on the side and a small coat hanger type rod going into it, you can check on the internet or at your local parts store to find exactly where it is and what it looks like

This seems issue with the ignition switch.
Check if the key is worn out if not replaced the key cylinder and the ignition switch.
That should solve the problem.

Check ebay for parts.

Check your battery terminals for corrosion or to see if there loose take them off and put them back on and tighten first thing if thats ok then you need to buy a key switch somewhere in there or your power source there is a short check those first if the battery is corroded regular coke the soda works well to kill the corrosion but you still need to take them off to clean try those first

there still may be a short in your key switch it is inexpensive and it will eliminate one more posibilaty because thats the only way your going to figure this out. can you see the starter if so you need to see if conections are tight as well if you know how to jump off a starter you might want to try that as well touch the possitive wire to a ground if the starter does not spin the starter is bad...

If steam is coming out of the exhaust it is probably the head gasket. I take it you are adding a lot of water so you have a big leak or a blown gasket. Check to see if water is getting in the oil, another sign of gasket leak.

1999 olds intrique where the fan senser?

The temperature sensor is what usually tells the fan to power on, it should be located near the thermostat in the cooling line, it would be a good idea to check the fuses first and the fan relay.

My 2001 Olds Integre will not start, but later does start.

This may be a problem with the ignition switch. The ignition switch feeds power to many of the different systems- including the starting system and the dash.A low voltage output of the switch will not allow the starter relay to engergize, along with many other odd problems. A way to check this is that when it is acting up, turn the ignition key back and forth very quickly many several times, or tap and the head of the key with a small hammer. These things will normally cause a faulty ign switch to correct itself for the time being.

You can jump across the celonoid on the starter. If the engine turns over then your problem is either the celonoid or the starter switch.
