Don't know if this is going to be any help at all. But we purchased our 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee a year ago and I just now learned that the rear window even opens. Did you find the switch that makes it pop open? If not it is just under the ridge under the window but above the handle to open the hatch. You just put your hand on it and push upwards. Hope this helps!!
ALSO, THE JEEP HOLD PRESSURE WHEN OPENING IT..NEXT TIME GIVE IT A LTIILE PUSH ON THE TAILGATE LID WHILE PULLING THE HANDLE..IT WORKS GREAT ON THIS ONE. EVEN AFTER THE FIRST OWNER BROKE OFF THE DANG KEY..
HOPE IT HELPS *I went by body shop for this same type issue with a 98 grand cherokee * the body shop guy removed the plastic sheild and adjusted a cable that interacts with the locking mechanism, took 5 seconds, cost me $20 for his time, works good as new.

All you have to do once you take the back panel off is pull up on the release lever. It's a thin, bent metal rod to the right of the mechanism. The top of it is in a clamp and has threads. Once you pull that, your door will pop open. You may want to start dancing wildly, depending on how long your door has been stuck.
If you have the same problem I had, the release lever has slipped in it's clasp and no longer has enough tension to open the door. To fix this problem permanently, pop the top of the release lever out of it's clamp. Then pull up on it as much as possible to remove the slack and snap it back into place. You'll want to squeeze the clamp really tight around the lever. You may want to silicone it in place.
Hope this works for you! Good luck:)

SOURCE: 1999 jeep cherokee sport it wont start cranks but wont fire

Figures...I'd use 2&3 as b&c Open reading means that with the meter set to ohms and turned on, the meter should read the same connected to the terminals as it did before you connected it.

SOURCE: 1999 jeep cherokee sport rear

on the inside panel towards the center of the plastic, there should be a small square that pops out with a screwdriver. This is the access panel to manually move the rod to open the tailgate. Once opened, you have to remove the entire plastic cover and adjust the rod by removing one side and screwing it in a turn or two. Hope this helps...

To eliminate wiring issue take good speaker and hook it up directly to the left front output - if it does not work then that amp is blown. Period.

Are the Window regulators for the Cherokee Sport and the Grand

Check with a local scrap yard... they would know best. As far as I know, unless there is a difference in door shape, regulator should be the same. Name differences generally denote trim packages, and don't affect hard parts that much.
