1991 ford ranger 2.3L manual, no air, lopes underway, wants to stall at take off. What is cause?

I have done a complete tune-up and also replaced the engine control module. Tune-up with new wires, plugs, distributor sending unit, air filter. I do not have any check engine light or indicator there is a problem. The hoses seem OK in the emissions but I may be wrong. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be? While driving the truck will lope and when descending in speed it has a slight buck. It wants to stall out when I take off from a dead stop. Idles fine, starts OK, but when driving or trying to drive it will hiccup, lope, stumble. Thanks for any help you can give. There are 136,000 miles on the truck.

The problem could be plugged up catalytic convert it is related to tune up.One more thing fuel filter too. Check auto zone if they have anything to burn out catalytic. When you change with standard catalytic you will have code PO420 will be a headache!!!!!!!! 80% cars have this problem Think twice before doing anything.

SOURCE: 2001 Forester, Rough idle and engine loping driving at low rpm

I had a similar problem on my 2002 Impreza RS 2.5 (same engine and engine control system). In my case it was the O2 sensor on the intake manifold. This happened at 34,xxx mi. so it was covered by the warranty. Replacing the part is very easy. (two bolts and a wiring harness). Obviously I would start simple and cheap and work your way to expensive and difficult.
From my understanding its all caused from the engine missfiring. If its been a while or never, I'd change the spark plugs first. (stick with the Subaru Parts plugs, I went after market and the dealer claimed the plugs were not the correct "temperature" and had to pay for the new plugs and install although they did it without my permition. Thats a whole nother story).
Could also be the manifold pressure sensor.
Either 02 or manifold pressure sensor may cause intermitent check engine light.
Where I live Brookline,MA , Autozone will run a free diagnostic on your car by hooking up to your ECU and will give you the trouble codes and possible remidies. Of course there are no guarentee's but it will point you in the right direction.
Good Luck

It sounds to me like you replaced everything but the most likely cause of a stall while driving...The crank sensor.

SOURCE: I have a 95 nissan sentra and it keeps idling

Check vacuum leaks , by spraying carburator cleaner around intake manifold gasket and vacuum hoses connections . See if engine picks up the idle speed while you doing it , and if it does , locate leak and fix it. Most common , intake manifold gasket brakes.

I need to know why my 1991 ford ranger 2.3 is stalling out while driving

Add one can of injection cleaner additive from parts store or Walmart or Dollar General store to the tank when the tank is low on gas and then on freeway accelerate with pedal all the way down for as long as possible until you have to slow because you are speeding too fast. This will help unclog a fuel injector with a small bit of debris causing an issue. I have done this on numerous rangers when they tend to "lunge" while driving. If it completely stalling out and won't start, you probably have a crankshaft position sensor failing (especially if it acts up only when warm/hot).

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger 3.0L Edge. I had a basic tune up done (spark plugs, MAF sensor, fuel and air filters, plug wires, cleaned IAC sensor, replace a bad PVC elbow to intake, etc.). My truck run...

The "IAC" is not a sensor. IAC stands for Idle Air Control - it is an electric solenoid. These are not supposed to be "cleaned". If someone cleaned it, that is most likely your problem. You will most likely have to replace the IAC and get the engine to idle correctly so it will not stall at stops. This is a common problem for Ford 3.0L engines even if the IAC has not been cleaned.

You haven't tuned anything. Tune-ups went away in 1980 with the introduction of electronics.
Fuel filter -filters fuel
Injector cleaner-waste of money,on some fords, it will remove the coating on pintle and is not recommended
TPS Sensor, was replaced after you tested it ,and found it defective?
Spark Plugs-ever hear of one failing. Never seen one fail in 47 years.

Have you considered the EGR Valve,Vacuum Leaks,Old O2 Sensors,again,test first,then replace,blocked converter?
