Question about 1990 Ford Escort

Ford Escort Overheating

I have 1990 Ford Escort GT it is fine in cold weather, but when the weather get hot so does the car. I mean it is getting very hot, sometimes the gauge has hit max.

    Yea I flushed the system and changed the thermostat, same problem still exists.

If you havent already cooked the engine you are lucky, A cooling system flush is definatly needed. The water pump may be going bad.
Get it to a shop now.

average 195-225 F would be the normal range, this would hot cold weather and varied types of driving

These re known for head gasket failures when at operating temp. should do a compression check hot and cold.

1990 Ford Escort GT is fine in cold weather, but when it get hot so does the car I mean very hot gauge is in the danger level.


1) Check & see if rad fan comes on when temp reaches normal operating range.
2) Consider flushing rad & changing thermostat if not done already.

Engine runs very poor when it gets hot


it has a sensor problem or a blocked air filter ?' if its a sensor then its most likely to be the one on the other side of the throttle linkage

Replace the thermostat, if that does not cure the issue you have a slight head gasket leak. I am a retired Ford dealer tech and this is what I have found causes this issue.
