Have 96 4.3 S-10 and fan sounds like it is racing. I overhauled the transmission and changed out the clutch fan and the transmission sounds like it is slipping and the fan still sounds like it is racing. Any solutions?

transmission has been rebuilt and only has 200 miles on it. the rebuilder says it is the clutch fan locking in and i have put 2 new clutch fans on it and still has not helped. it sounds like the transmission is still slipping.

Put in a tachometer to see if the RPM is ok or not. Check trans fluid color.

Driving along makes a very loud noise like motor is racing, but continue driving, noise goes away then starts again???

Please take a look at your Engine's RPMs when this is happening and let us know, as it will help with the diagnosis. If the Engine RPM is stable (not high during the periods of the racing engine sound), then it sounds like your Radiator Fan clutch may be going out. The noise you are hearing is the fan kicking in and blowing a lot of air, which in turn sounds like the engine is racing.

If the RPMs are increasing with the racing engine sound, it could be the transmission/(clutch if manual trans) slipping.
Hope this helps!

1999 ford tauras , engine races when i was driving it. didnt really pick up speed , just sounded like it

It sounds as if your automatic transmission clutch pack is slipping. You could try changing transmission fluid, but sometimes that may make it worse. You're likely in line for a new transmission. It will continue to get worse until your car will not go at all, or it may only be worse in certain gears, depending on which clutch disk is slipping.

Not changing pass third gear had transmission rebuilt twice in past year, fluid is fine Rpms race to five

Hi :) Sounds like the clutch pack if the machanic didn't setup the T.V. Cable The right way the hydraulic pressure wouldn't be properly set and as you are driving the clutches would be slipping everytime they change gears and since you use 3rd and 4th the most they go first.

1997 buick lesabre 130,000 miles auto. goes into drive fine and rev. but when driving it it wont shift the moter races and wont shift like it stayes only in 1st

Check the transmission fluid and see if it's low on fluid. If it is more than one pint low it could cause slippage, With that many miles if you have not done a transmission oil and filter change then you will need to do this first when they pull the pan they can tell if you need to overhaul the transmission. Hope this helps you. The cost for a transmission oil and filter change ranges from $150.00 to $200.00.

Transmission only goes in reverse

make sure check transmission for proper fluid level and color.if fluid looks black or smell burnt.change fluid and filter.check manual linkage for proper adjustment.if all is good.your transmission oil pump bad or the over drive unit has damage roller clutch.or the forward clutch has burned clutch plates and damage pistons and probably need to buy another transmission or get an overhaul.

Transmission slips full turns & quick stops

Have you checked the fluid? It sounds like its low. If its fine, change the filter.

Trany slips out of over drive

on automatics the overdrive is actualy not in the trans at all
it's a small cluch in the torque converter and is not repairable, the only fix is to replace the torque converter, but then you say it races free as if not in drive?
That's a failure of the forward clutch

I'm afraid you need the trans overhaued, I recomend the dealership and NEVER places like Mr Transmission type, they'll overhaul it wihout any testing and cannot diagnose, just overhaul and overhaul ultil eother you're broke, or give up

In a 250 you most likely have either a C-6 (Aluminum case) or a FMX (Iron case) both are good transmissions and again the overdrive is the torque converter, be sure they replace it too

Good luck
