  • xtreme_282 Jun 28, 2009

I jumped it off today i opened the door and everything came on like it should put the key in and turned it and i heard nothing but a click so i checked the starter even took it off and had it bench tested and it checked out ok. the battery is dead because when it is not hooked to my truck the cd player changes sounds like it cant find the cd and if the door is open the mileage and door open thing comes on and goes off every few min. so it is taken me around in circles. i dont know were to even start.

Check all battery connections and grounds including body and dash grounds. Also check ignition switch.

The dash is suposed to be grounded to the body and firewall Simple way to check is to re-ground it using a long set of jumpers....connect only the negative lead to the battery negative post and connect the other end to the metal cross bar at the bottom of the dash that runs all the way across. If it's not grounding properly, the items that are acting up will return to normal. Don't could also be a faulty ignition switch or other main connection between battery and all systems.

Ignition switch is on top of the steering column under the dash. Use a volt meter to check for voltage going into it and coming out in all positions. There should be one hot lead all others are accessory , run and start Others power options but all should have 12v in, 12v out and none should be dead.

My temp gauge goes to H after driving 15 mins, my radiator & hoses are not leaking, theRes no steam , water pump works and thermostat was already removed. Anyone have idea of what it could be?

Do you see bubbles comming to the surface in the radiator as the engine is running --if you do --leaky head gasket -- if not you need to repace the sending unit for the temperature guage --- if this does not cure the problem you need to replace the cluster of guages on dash -- could be quite expensive to do the last cure

2002 Jeep Grand Cheroke, dashboard gauges not working

Hi NJ, I'm glad to help. NJ, if your guages are the only thing thats not working. HERE is something that happens sometimes. Look at the guage needs and see if they are stuck behind the little rest pins that stick outward in the dash. If the are they wont move because there stuck. There are 2 ways to fix this, if you have the money take it to the dealer and have a calibration done. BUT, if your low on cash and want to do it yourself here's how! Remove the cluster from the vehicle and turn it over so the needles will go back to there proper position and install the cluster back in the vehicle and your done. Hope this helps and have an awesome day NJ.

I have a 05 grand prix gt. my dash lights go out plus all warnings are showing up on screen. Turn signals don't work as well as head lights when this happens. Then it goes back to normal and then...

have you checked the DIC fuse and dash fuse to make sure they are tight. The DIC (instrument cluster) will light anytime it senses an issue with the data feed to it. You might just have a loose dash cluster connector or a loose DIC harness. Try jiggling some of the harnesses under the dash when the car is running normally and see if you can get the DIC to do the same symptoms.

Hey guys, i am no mechanic not even close, but my pontiac grand prix se 4-dr automatic with 6cyl, has been acting strange when i first start it and drive it maybe 30 min the low coolent light comes on and...

The first things to do are: 1. Make sure the radiator is full when the engine is cool (check the fluid in the radiator as well as the overflow tank). 2. Make sure the thermostat is working. 3. Have the lower intake manifold gasket checked. The Grand Prix SE came with a 3.1L engine (standard) and these engines are famous for lower intake manifold gasket problems.

Temp guage in red' dummie light on engine not hot

Sounds like a faulty sensor, if the actual temp is 195/215. The ICM is processing the information it receives from the sensor and performs accordingly. A complete diagnostic scan would be helpful in determining the proper repairs needed to correct the problem.
Good luck...i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.

Wont start No buss on speedometer.

Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor and turn the key on. See if the "no bus" message goes away and the gauges come back to life. If so, replace the crankshaft position sensor. On a 4.7 it is just above the starter, on a 4.0 it is on the left side of center of the bell housing. The modules all communicate on the bus and if it is down the vehicle won't start. I've seen the crank sensor short out and pull the bus down resulting in the exact condition you described.
