Question about 1999 Nissan Quest

1 Answer

My wife just got back from the store in our recently purchased 2001 XTerra, and told me that even after she turned the key off and locked the car, all the idiot lights were still on. So I went out and checked, and (ya might wanna sit down!) she was right. It starts up fine, but when you shut it off, all the warning lights stay on, even after removing the key. I tried disconnecting the battery, and after a half hour, reconnected it, and it's still the same. Has anyone here ever seen anything like this before? Is it some kind of subtle, coded message that something is wrong? Or just a very OBVIOUS message that something is wrong? Question is, WHAT?

This sounds like a bad body cpu or ecm. There's 3 computers that run your vehicle. The body controller affects those lights. Check the fuses first in the car & under the hood.

Steering wheel locked in place, key will not turn...

Very likely the steering thrust stored in the tires attempting to turn back is forcing excessive tension against the steering lock.

Try (very hard) to turn the steering wheel either direction while turning the key gently.

If that solves it you can avoid this by letting go of the steering after stopping to park, turn off the ignition slowly (engine off, pause, then key out). This will ensure that the steering wheel comes to rest prior to locking the column.

Purchase you a repair manual from Auto Zone purchase the switch assembly from ebay or from a salvage yard and replace it yourself. I was just lkie my wife, I knew where to put the gas, unless it was full service. Then I purchased a 1996 Mercury, purchased a repair manual and being doing all my work on the car.

a lot of times the sensors on each wheel become covered with brake dust if you remove the wheels and clean the sensor with brake cleaner this will solve the problem but keep in mind it may happen again when the brake dust gets on the sensor again

2001 xterra key won't turn

First have her turn the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key. Then if that does not work try moving the shifter as much as she can with the brake pedal depressed. If for some reason that does not work she will have to get it to a dealer. Good luck, dont forget to rate.

Lost door lock remote for 2001 Nissan Xterra.

You don't want to turn the security system completely off, besides there really is no need to. To arm and disarm the vehicle simply use the key in the drivers door. When you turn the key and lock the car the system will arm after about 30 seconds. When you come back to the car and unlock the car with the drivers door lock cylinder the system will unarm, just the same as if you were using the remote. If the system is unarmed and it still wont start you probably have a NATS issue with the key. This is different than simply disarming. You can't shut off or disarm the NATS system.
