Question about 2005 Nissan Xterra

1 Answer

Trailer running lights work. turn/brake/hazard do not.

I have the exact same problem.  I towed an old trailer a little while ago with my xterra 05.  after doing that, when I tried to tow my bike trailer, I found that none of the lights worked at all. It turned out that the old trailer had shorts all throughout and blew fuses for my trailer lights. I found the trailer running lights fuse and replaced that - so now my running lights work.  but I can't find out which fuses control circuits for the trailer turn/brake...(no fuses are named).  I need a wire diagram to find out what they are. If anyone has a wire diagram of an 05 xterra - that details the trailer lights circuits - can they send me an email?
thanks

I found out what the problem is.

The BCM (Body Control Module) has 2 fuses for the turn signals and brake lights.

The BCM can be found in the footwell area - underneath the steering wheel.

I have a 1994 k2500 suburban with very little tow power.I've done a complete tune up, replaced the fuel filter,Had the trans checked, replaced egr,cat and muffler, good fuel pressure, compression 14

Have you tried to manually downshift the trans going up hills? Sounds like the trans is not being told to downshift .

There is a test machine, (Want to say Odessey) that is attached to your truck and the truck is driven while hooked up. This machine can be asked questions by the mechanic. It has more electronics in it than the onboard computer. You would have the trailer attached to reveal realtime operating conditions.

It basically can do what a Dynamometer can do, while pulling a load. Even if it cost substantially to do this test, you would save by not buying parts you do not need.

Find a Dealer who knows about this type of machine and has one to use on your truck.

How should I prepare my durango to pull a 24 foot travel trailer...what class of hitch, do I need in-board electric trailer brake controls, etc.?

Hi Frank,
I have a Durango 2000 and pull a 24 foot ski boot loaded with equipment. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't try towing anything without the trailer brakes connected. I purchased the Titan Trailer brakes setup and they've never failed me once. The hitch: just make sure you get the right towing capacity for your travel trailer. I have the 5.9 liter engine, which allows up to 6500 pounds of towing capacity. Your owners guide will explain how many based on engine size.
Good Luck, and happy traveling.

05 f-250 super duty Pulling trailer uphill reved up shifting down, bogged out no throttle response wrench light on. Top of hill pull over restart wrench light out Problem repeats at next hill. ford...

It does have a towing package right? A button on the end of the gearshift that you push in when towing? It sounds like it is in too high of gear. Maybe trans fluid gets hot and turns on the light? If it dont have the towing package? Are you keeping it in overdrive? Shift it down manually and keep it in 3rd when hauling any kind of weight.
Not sure if this helps but I know peopl that have burnt their transmission out pulling trailers in O/D
