SOURCE: setting memory seats on 1997 grand cherokee with key fob
I had the same problem and had to kinda figure it out on my own. I have a 98 grand cherokee and I think they should be the same. Inside the drivers door panel there are 3 buttons... a number 1 and number 2 and a SET button. Hold down the set button for a couple seconds then release. Then adjust your settings on your seat and mirrors to what you want...Then press # 1. If you have another person that will be driving the car do the same and press number 2...
The thing is...........There are 2 key chain things issued with each car...One will be the number 1 driver, the other one is the number 2 driver...So...I would program the number 1 driver first and see which key chain thing works...then you will know the other one will be for the number 2 driver.
Hope that made sense...It is a great feature once you finally figure it out. Sheri

SOURCE: 1994 Jeep Grand cherokee rear lift gate
Well My 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee had the same problem and we had to just cut into the lift gate panel from the inside. It required cutting plastic but with a 94 looks arent everything and a working lift gate was worth it. But then we pealed back this black plastic mat under the panel and lifted up on the release bar(verticle bar that lifts the latch) and once we got it open we adjusted a little clamp that had slipped. Dont adjust it too much or when u lock it it wont lock! But sorry i dont know the name of the parts. But then u can screw the panel back in and it wont look to bad besides some cuts.

SOURCE: liftgate open light stays on all the time
Look for the pin switch on the body where the lift gate is. The switch could be stuck, broken, or corroded. Theres a pin switch on every door to turn on the inside lights, and sometimes they fail. Make sure it is clean, and moves easily. If its stuck, a shot of WD-40 will get it going again. If no matter what you do, you cant get it working properly, replace it.
