Question about 1990 Toyota Pickup
1990 toyota pickup has a 22re engine. The temp gauge is reaching half to a little past half with air conditioner on. If I turn off air conditioner it will run little below half mark to half. Changed thermostat and still has the same issue. What could be the issue? I remember back in 2005 i had this same issue and the shop replaced the radiator and it ran below half mark and stayed that way with air condiotoner on. Do i need to replace the radiator again? Water pump has been replaced and it is not leaking. Do I need to flush system?
I would bet that your fan is not coming on. When an airconditioner is on it uses alot of power and that makes heat. The engine will warm past the safe point. Most vehicles should have a switch that turns the fan on and off to cool the motor. You can start the vehicle and pop the hood. once it gets warm if you don't see the fan come on that's most likely your problem. Be very careful around the blade because they come on and off suddenly. I go to Auto Zone for free diagnostics. They only sell parts but can walk you thru possibly fixing it yourself.

If your car is running hot after replacing the thermostat try flushing the radiator which will usually make the car run cooler. Antifreeze raises the temperature of cars a bit and is not needed during the summer months if you live in a warm area. Make sure you put some in though by the time it becomes winter. There may be a lot of gunk in there that is causing it to heat up especially if any radiator leak was ever added to the system.
