Question about 1995 Chrysler Cirrus

1 Answer

Why does the air compressor still run with the air conditioner on even though there is no freon in the system? It cuts off normally when the system is turned off, but starts up again when turned back on. I have checked the freon by depressing the valve core on both the high side and the low side and nothing comes out.Only hot air comes out of the vents inside with the fan on.

Why are you running the a/c with no freon. The compressor will run even if you have no freon because it has no way of knowing there is no freon sensor in any vehicle i know of.

Why does the air conditioner compressor cut off as soon as it come on ?

Would either be low on freon or there is a blockage in the system. Your system has a low and a high pressure limit switch. If it is low on freon the compressor will make a suction on the low side and the system will kick off the compressor, and if there is a blockage in the system the compressor will make too much pressure and the high limit will cut out the compressor. You will need to have a set of gauges installed and see what your system is doing.

Air conditioner compressor cuts on and off, freon tests high

you will have to bleed some off the freon off of the high side safety. Use a hose combo with gauges.

Air conditioning stopped working step for trouble

There are several ideas on test gauges for A/C pressure. You need to find out if you have any Freon pressure in your system. Low pressure will activate a cut-off switch to protect the compressor from seizing.

If you look at the passengers side of the Firewall, under the wiring bundle attached to the Firewall, the low pressure fitting is on the black oblong tank. The pressure cut-off switch is on a A/C line leaving this tank.

You can by-pass the cut-off switch with a wire loop to see if the compressor engages and what the running pressure is for the system. You can work with low pressure better than some other problems.

There are Freon cans with sealant and conditioner which can fix minor problems. Once you get enough pressure to deactivate the cut-off switch the Freon should be pulled into the system.

Have windows open, A/C on Max, and then use the gauge to keep from overfilling the system.

Air conditioner compressor will not turn off.

The low pressure switch cuts power to the compressor if the pressure drops below 20psi such as when the system is low on freon.
If the compressor runs with the HVAC system in the off position, you would check for a stuck relay, or a short where the compressor clutch is getting power from another source.

My durangos air conditioner is blowing hot even though the freon levels are right. I was wondering where the air conditioner condenser was located so I could see if it is stopped up. Not the one in front...

I think the problem that u have is the ac heater vent door broken or the motor stopped working. Very commun problem in dodge. U need to remove the dash board and ac heater box....

Air compressor cuts on & off when the car is running, air conditioner is not getting cold?

More they likely, low on freon, will need to do a leak test, to fine out where the leak is at, the reason the a/c compr, shut off, is the low pressure switch cut it off, when low on freon, that way the compr, wont get damage, or you could just keep recharging the a/c system.

Air conditioner starts blowing cold air then blows warm

This is most likely the cycling of the AC unit. As the compressor pressurizes the 134a Freon you get the cold air, once it reaches a certain pressure it cuts out. If you are low on Freon it will cycle out more often. Check your freon level with a gauge to see if your within the proper tolerance. If the compressor runs for a period and doesn't reach the right pressure it will cut out to keep from damaging your compressor so it is important to keep the correct amount of freon in the system.

You need to make sure the freon is correct,by having ac gauges put on the system,if the compressor is running the gauges will tell if there is a problem with the ac system itself, now,it can be the temp door actuator motor that is in the dash,if it is not moving the temp door open,it will need to be replaced.

Air conditioner compressor stop when the speed up more 1200 rpmin low spees work perfect.

Sounds like a low freon level.
When the compressor runs faster, it reduces the gas level on the low side and the low level sensor cuts off the compressor clutch.

Optionally you have a clogged dryer in the system and the compressor is pulling on it until it is shut off by the same sensor.

Add a can of freon and see if that clears it up. if not, you will need an airconditioning guy to trouble shoot the components to determine the exact cause (dryer??)

A/C blowing hot air. Compressor activates and system has pressure.

Could be the expansion valve. That's what allows the temperature to actually drop in the system - the contents of the AC system are under pressure, and are at a certain temperature. When the freon goes through the expansion valve, the pressure drops suddenly and dramatically, which "flash chills" the freon, allowing the air to blow cold. If it fails, you may get lukewarm air from the AC despite everything else working. Also though, check to see whether the AC evaporator fan (underhood) is working - on some cars, if it doesn't turn on, the compressor won't be run enough to cool the air.
