Question about 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

The speedometer on my Chevrolet Tahoe 2004 doesn't work. When stopped it's at 60mph and when driving it goes up to 120mph or maybe even more. what could be the problem

    replace the speedo.

That is a known guage cluster problem that GM will fix under warranty. Had the same problem with mine.

There is an electrical problem with the radio. Take the van to an auto electrician or a can radio installation shop and ask the to fix the wires for you.

Replace the speed sensor on the transmission. This component will cause the issue you have.

unfortunately you will have to have the entire instrument cluster replaced, it is a very common problem on these vehicles

Speedometer is stuck at 120mph

Try giving the gauge pod a solid hit with your hand. This may jolt the needle back.

  • remove the gauge pod.
  • remove the front clear panel from the pod.
  • move the needle back the zero position.
  • reassemble.
See if the speedometer now works.

The speedometer stops working when driving what is the problem all the other gages work just when you drive it will just stop moving.

all chevy made in that year have a speedometer issue i have a 2004 chevy that has the same issue the only way to fix it is to replace the dash insturment panel some of them the speedometer goes and the rest of the gages work fine or try replace the speed sensor located at the front of the transmission on the bottom
