Question about 1999 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

My 1999 Cadillac Deville over-heats. I replaced the thermostat with no luck. Some people have told me that it could possibly be a bad head-gasket, but I know that normaly when head-gaskets go bad you will see smoke (white smoke). Could it possibly be my water-pump? If so, what might I want look at as a determining factor?

Sounds like you may have a head gasket problem. These engines were known for having head gaskets go bad which would pump engine exhaust into the cooling system causing it to overflow

I have a 1998 Cadillac Deville with a northstar engine. I am having an issue with overheating and water not being taken into my radiator. I was told when i first bought it that it had a blown head gas

If you bought a car with head gasket issues
replace them, don't use it & ruin the engine

We can't guess at all the cars possible problems

People sell a car when they don't want the expense
of fixing it

The type problem is best left to a person that works on their
own vehicles & gets it cheap, knowing they have lots of
work to do every were ,to restore many things

Engine over heats Replaced water pump and thermostat and 2 bottom water hoses

Check your oil for any traces of water. The oil may be foamy or milky in color. The culprit may be a blown head gasket that over heats the coolant.

When a Cadillac (Northstar) overheats, It will give the message to change the oil. If you run a Northstar and keep running it long enough it will start shutting off cylinders and stop the A/C compressor to help protect itself. In this condition I would check for a blown headgasket. Possibly your technican will find the problem. Could also be stuck thermostat, dirty radiator Thanks

Over heating/ loss of coolent

If you are not loosing coolant on the ground. You may have a problem of a bad intake manifold gasket or worst a bad head gasket. The two things to look at are coolant in your oil, manifold gasket. Coolant out the exhaust, head gasket.
