I was having the same exact problem with my 2005 neon as well. The guy at Discount auto suggested the starter itself was the problem(cost approx $200). The car isn't old enough to be having a starter issue so I figured it was something more simplilar. My dad took a look and founf out it was the starter relay. It is located in the black fuse/relay box on the driver's side right next to the battery. I had to get a new relay at the dealership(cost $20) and my car starts perfectly. Hope this helps

I have 2005 I changed the starter and battery good but it still won't start

First does it crank, if it does then check to see if the fuel injectors are getting fuel.....could be a fuel pump...

second....if there is nothing when you turn the key and the battery is good and the starter was replaced...it could be a bad ground.....thats the ground coming off your battery and goes to your chassis of the car.........let me know how you make out.

2005 Dodge Neon won't start - code says key doesn't match VIN

I think you are getting the runaround from the "dealers" you are consulting. You need to find a competent mechanic who will do some diagnostic work to isolate the real cause of the no-start problem and fix it.

I have a 2005 Dodge Neon, gave someone a hot shot and now battery

I doubt the boost would have effected the starter at all,but the battery may have seen it` last days, but, also,I would be more concerned about checking the alternator, and make sure it is charging correctly with the new battery.Checked at the battery, with headlights on,and ac on high blower setting,it should read 13.65 volts,to 14.255 volts, anything less is not good.

Well it could be your fuel pump. That is most likely the first thing I would think of. Or it might just be your starter. Oh, since it won't even crank it will most likely be your starter. If its not that check your fuel pump.

The first thing to check is the condition of the battery. If you have one or more bad cells, it will not provide enough power to turn the starter over. Also, check connections on battery to make sure they are clean and secure. Lastly, check to make sure the connection from the battery to the starter is clean and secure.

If the battery and cables are both okay, you most likely have a failing starter solenoid. A starter solenoid (or starter relay) is the part of an automobile which relays a large electric current to the starter motor, which in turn sets the engine in motion. In many vehicles the solenoid also engages the starter pinion with the ring gear of the engine.
The starter motor is a series-wound direct current electric motor with a solenoid switch (similar to a relay) mounted on it. When low-current power from the starting battery is applied to the starter solenoid, usually through a key-operated switch, it pushes out the drive pinion on the starter driveshaft and meshes the pinion with the ring gear on the flywheel of the engine. When the solenoid has low power being supplied to it or is failing itself, it will make a clicking sound.

The starter relay or starter solenoid would be my guess, but I am wondering what the gears on the old starter looked like. If they were in really bad shape (deformation or chunks missing) you may need to replace the flywheel.

I have a Dodge Neon 2006 which was working fine

you may be right, try a spare key, that will elimanate the key chip, you will need a scan tool to diagnose this problem, also with key in crank position is there power at starter, the scan tool can tell yuo if computer is reading key chip signal and if signal if right and also you can see if starter is receiving start signal, good luck.
