My engine check light came on but I have trouple diagnosing the cause. Can someone tell me what might be the problem. The owner's manual says that if the fuel cap is not on tight it might cause the light to go on. I replaced the cap but the light still came on. Can someone tell me the probable cause?

Take it to autozone and borrow the code reader. It plugs in under the dash. This will give you an idea of what the problem might be.

Avalon 2003 Check Engine light came on along with VSC and trac off lights what do those mean?

Your owners manual should tell you

You have a fault in the ABS Braking System

Traction Control/Vehicle Stability Control
lights are part of that system

Have to get codes just like all vehicle problems,
when any light comes on & then diagnose system
down to a component & test that

What does it mean if my check engine light turned on

30 years ago the federal govt wanted to
lower exhaust emissions.

So the had the Car Makers come up with
OBD1 (1980 thru 1995) then OBD2
(1996 thru 2011) On Board Diagnostic

Seems that millions of vehicle owners ,don't know
30 years later what to do.

ANY Check Light you get on your dash,
tells you that any number of your vehicles systems
may have failed in some way

Your to have the car diagnosed and repaired.

You hear about getting codes,
they don't tell you what is wrong or what
to replace. it is a starting point for the
diagnosing part.

No one owns an owners manual or these
questions would be answered, to some degree

You can not make the lights go away, unless you
make the repairs
You can not even be accepted for inspection
with a light on.

The computer on the truck says to have maintenance performed. Checking the owners manual, it says the EGR valve needs to be replaced. Where is the EGR valve, what does it do and where do I get the part?...

Are you sure that the Owners Manual is telling you to replace your EGR Valve or is it simply telling you to check it? Does the light on the dash say "Maintenance Required"? or is your Check Engine light on? If your vehicle is equipped with "Maintenance Required" light, the vehicle usually does not need anything. You simply check the systems that are listed by the manufacturer to check, make repairs only as necessary, and reset the light. Chrysler did some goofy stuff with Maintenance Required lights back in the 80's where they recommended replacemet of a whole bunch of parts that the vehicle didn't need to have replaced. We used to just reset the light and send the vehicle back to the customer. I haven't seen one of those for a while. If your 2007 has one of these, it means Chrysler is up to some old stuff for 2007.
On the other hand, if it is the "Check Engine" light that is on, the computer needs to be scanned for fault codes and diagnosed and repaired accordingly. Also EGR valve failures are pretty rare. When the Engine Computer sets a fault code for the EGR system it usually is not caused by the EGR Valve itself. Your 2007 is OBDII compatible, which means if you are having a problem with your EGR System the Check Engine light will be on and fault codes will be stored in the Engine Computer.

My daughter is driving a 1999 Chevy Malibu which did not come with an owners manual. One of the indicator lights is on, along with the check engine light, and we do not know what it is for. Ultimately...

I may be able to locate the owners manual and send it to you, but you can take the car to Autozone, they will hook it up, and tell you whats causing the light to come on. Why not its free! Let me know!

1998 mazda 626 check engine light flashing

Your vehicle’s computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with one of the components or sensors it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and you need to diagnosed and repaired it. The list of possible codes number in the hundreds. The code itself doesn't tell exactly what component is defective - it only indicates where to look, or what engine parameter is out of normal range. A technician will have to perform further testing to pinpoint cause and the proper repair. When the light starts flashing the computer is telling you to have the vehicle looked at now before other problems happen.

Malfunctioning mirrors and seat adjustments

Check the owners manual for proper programming of the these systems, and this is not a common problem, nor do I think it is related to the dealer fixing the check engine light, if you are sure they caused this problem during the last repair go back and ask them to please at least confirm that the issue was not caused by them, they will usually not charge if you are nice, about it.
