Why would the fan turn on immediately after starting the car? The engine could not be hot enough to trigger the thermostat, even if it is 96 degrees outside.

Nope no a/c running. It's a 2005 Dodge Magnum that's given me probs from day one. It's also getting terrible mileage lately.

If the defroster is on it will run because the a/c will cycle. Also the sensor in the radiator could cause this by being bad or coolant is low. If coolant is low sensor detects air temp an will run fan all the tim.

Okay i have a '89 ford f150 4x4 standard single cab short wheel base with a 302 & i just replaced the thermostat 180 degrees & replaced the fan clutch because thermostat stuck & fan clutch was bad & it ran...

Its possible that you got a faulty thermostat that is actually sticking open and not allowing the water to actually heat up to temperature. Try checking the heater and see if you actually have heat. If not, I would start there and purchase another thermostat. It's the cheapest route and I have purchased bad ones myself.

2002 chevy malibu heats up when running at low speeds

CHECK THE THERMOSTAT. THERMOSTAT IS THE ONE THAT SENSE THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE AND TURNS ON COOLING FAN WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT.

Temp gauge is in normal, 200 degree, range when starting. Within a few minutes of driving goes up to 250, right below orange line. No leaks found, coolant level appears fine. Any ideas?

250 DEGREES ENGINE GETTING TOO HOT.SOUND LIKE CLUTCH FAN FREEWHEEL.IF CLUTCH FAN DONT LOCK IN OR HAVE RESISTANCE TURNING BY HAND WHEN ENGINE HOT.FAN CLUTCH IS BAD.IF FAN CLUTCH OKAY COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT.I WOULD CHANGE THERMOSTAT FLUSH OUT ENGINE AND RADIATOR.IF ENGINE TEMPERATURE STILL READS 250 DEGREES OVER FLOW JUG OR RESERVOIR NOT BOILING OVER THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY.

What temperature should the thermostat run? Just added antifreeze and its running at about 220, that seems a little hot?

YOUR VECHICLE CALL FOR 195 DEGREE THERMOSTAT.THERMOSTAT SHOULD OPEN AT 188 TO 195 DEGREES.CHECK COOLANT FAN CLUTCH THE FAN SHOULD HAVE RESISTANCE WHEN TURN BY HAND WHEN HOT.IF NOT FAN FREE WHEELING ALL THE TIME THAT WOULD CAUSE ENGINE TO RUN HOT.

98 deville runs hot. i have already changed thermostat

You likely don't want to hear this but Northstar engine a common for head gasket failures. One good test that I use it to fill the coolant tank all the way to the top. Then start it up. If the coolant shoots out of the tank. The heads have a problem.
